Its been years since i've had a PC. My old one packed in and so I sold it back in 2004 (I think) and ever since i've been stuck with an old Ibook. I've had my Xbox and PS2 for a century now and then i got my 360 which livened up things but it was never the same.
My Old computer was pretty good at the time. It had a Pentium 4 2.2ghz prosseser 512gb of DDR RAM and a Geforce 5200 256mb graphics card.

Its now 2008 and i sold my Ibook for £300 on Ebay. I added about £80 and i have finnally mangaed to get a new one.
The new one has:
AMD 4200+ Dual-Core
1GB DDR2 RAM
80GB HDD
NViDiA 6100 256MB
and Windows Vista.

I then bought a Sapphire ATi Radeon X1950 Pro 256MB at a recomendation from a friend.

And all of this for under £400, thats so little taking into account how much i spent on my old one.

Considering the last time i used a PC this is going to feel like nothing like I have ever used before! (Exluding occasionally playing my friends PC's). And so now i wait for it to be deliverd tommorow!

thats cool but now with the prices of computer parts, you can upgrade that HDD to 250 gb easily - costs around $70-$80 for a good one

and I am not a fan of windows vista so no comments on that, XP is the way to go if you want it for gaming and if you want some old programs to work on it

what AMD processor is it? Athlon?

well that's all you'll need - in today's tech world, an 80 gb hdd won't do you much

i have a 500 gb hdd right now and I am looking to get another one because I know this one will be filled very soon, over the summer at least because I have a few projects i want to start on this pc - and my Server has a 250 GB hdd as well, unless i plan to open an image host here, i won't be upgrading

well that's an ok computer i guess. i know next to nothing about ati so i couldn't tell you what's good but i go with nvidia i have a 8800gts 640mb right now. it works like a charm. that lowest it got was 17 fps because i was playing world in conflict and a nuke went off and my screen was right in the middle.

lol the average price for the geforce 9600gt is $180, i don't know where you are looking for your gpus

it's a replacement for the 8600gt, it isn't too much better than the 8800 but i know it is better by a bit and its cheaper, it can only do 512 mb vid memory i believe, haven't seen any card with more than that

oh i thought you were talknig about the 9800's! never mind then! but the 8800's are still better than that 9600's the 9600's are just the nine series basically just selling a little less of a card with a higher label.
