    Default Liar, Liar

Starring: Jim Carrey, Maura Tierney, Jennifer Tilly, Swoosie Kurtz
    Directed By: Tom Shadyac
    Released By: Universal
    Theatrical Release Date: 03/21/1997

    Synopsis:
Fletcher Reede is a lawyer obsessed with his career, and he's devoted his life to bending the truth to his advantage. This habit has broken up his marriage to Audrey and isn't doing much good for his relationship with his young son Max. Fletcher repeatedly promised Max that he'll be there for Max's eighth birthday party, but when an important assignment comes up at work, Fletcher calls Audrey and makes an excuse so flimsy that even Max can see through it. When it comes time to blow out the candles on his cake, Max makes a wish: that his Dad could go just one day without telling a lie. Suddenly, Max finds himself physically incapable of saying anything that isn't true -- which, given the divorce settlement case he's just been handed, is going to make his next day in court very interesting indeed.

    Review:
I've watched this movie time and time again, and I can tell you it never gets old. It's over a decade old, but this is one of my favorite movies by Jim Carrey. The role in this movie is supposed to feature a warmer side of Carrey's personality, but he never fails to provide a laugh. He does a great job at making his character such a jerk; you going to hate him and love him at the same time. The ending is really sweet, so sweet it's almost corny. You can pretty much expect what's going to happen. Even so, I would recommend owning this DVD. If not, at least rent it.
