Hey folks.
Just a few words about me so i wont get my head bitten off by extremists and geniuses. I not the most rutined guy in forums and may not have put this in the right place, never the less i need some help regarding graphics on COD-WAW and Far Cry 2 for PC.
First of all im running a Win XP PRO SP3, Intel P4 3.0GHz, 2GB RAM, 1TB WD storage and a ATI Radeon X850 Platinum edition.
With this i run WOW with everything on MAX without any irritations.
Now after having installed these 2 other games og pressing play i get this dam black screen D@KCMLXuFCGRRRR !!!!! My Drivers are up to date, directX up to date, tried several things of the net but still gotten no further than the black screen. So PLEASE anyone got any GOOD tips. Cuz as far as i know my graphics card should play it well enough, at least since my laptop 1.6GHz 1GB RAM with a GeForce GO7600 runs it on low detail.
THX in advance :eek1:

try to play the game in windowed mode if possible, that helps a LOT with cpu and gpu loads. and if possible, try to lower the graphics properties of the games if you get a black screen - the usual cause of a black screen is a graphics card not being able to handle the graphics

Well I see two problems: Your CPU and your Graphics card.
-Is your CPU dual core? If it is, then nevermind, it should be fine.
-You should upgrade your graphics card. That card is good, but not quite good enough for games like these. You could maybe get by with some tweaking but then the game would still look horrible and probably not get above 20fps. That card only has 256MB of RAM on it which is horrible for these two games. 512MB should be a minimum, with 1GB being recommended depending on what your card specs are.
Also, the black screen in World at War can sometimes be fixed by deleting the intro movie files in C:\Program Files\Activision\Call of Duty - World at War\main\video
in there, cut and paste (into a backup folder) this file: Treyarch.bik If it still don't work replace that file.

yup its the graphics card. the CoD games require a decent graphic card to play with. if it doesnt meet the standards it wont let you play.
That is a bad graphics card, but you can try changing your resolution to: 1280x1024 at 160 HZ, you should do good. A good idea is to upgrade to something like this:

newegg.[com]/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814187070
Or something in the 9000 series. Sorry cant post links.

The refresh rate doens't help framerate at all. 160hz will kill an LCD screen so DO NOT DO THIS if you got an LCD screen. LCD screens are limited to 60-75hz. The really expensive ones can go to 120hz.
I was giving him an option if he can hit it, its a recommened setting for his card so it would help.

It would help as long as he had a CRT monitor since they support 160hz refresh rate.
Hey I still have a tubed monitor.
