View Full Version : Bioshock to be milked to it's death?

In an interview with MCV magazine, 2K global president Christoph Hartmann says that a franchise as rich and story driven as BioShock could see as many as five sequels, comparing the critically acclaimed first-person shooter to the Star Wars movie series.
The difficulty, he notes, would lie in maintaining relevancy with regular iterations while avoiding the temptation to "cash in." Hartmann says he doesn't want BioShock to become a Duke Nukem stuck in development limbo -- but neither does he want it to be Need For Speed, ruined by a torrent of lackluster sequels.
BioShock is great and all, but do we really need five more? Hartmann explains: "Look at Star Wars. It's a fight between good and evil, just like BioShock. If we spin it the right way and get the right twist of innovation, we can make six parts of it, as Star Wars did."
With BioShock 2 just around the corner, and a movie in the works, we're likely to get awfully familiar with Little Sisters in the coming years. But I wonder if Hartmann realizes that while there were, technically, six Star Wars movies, only three of them were any good.

Looks like they plan milking the Bioshock franchise for all it's got.

well good luck to them...5 sequels is huge - they just have to hope it doesn't lose popularity as the years go by

Yea.... They should of waited to see how there second game went before they decided that. Sequels are bad a lot of the time, 5 of them just gives them more of a chance to fail.

okay, if you ignore all of the cheesy one liners, revenge of the sith is a great movie.
anyways, Playing through the Bioshock demo...I was really hoping it would be more like System Shock 2. That's a great game, even though i only got like 20 minutes into it. That's the best 20 minutes of FPS i've ever played.
I might get the first one if it hits $30 (its at $40 right now) and if i like it then i'll try the sequel

well jak. I spend too much money on games/blu ray as it is, so it's best to be a bargain hunter. I also don't have a steady income, i just get money here and there. and bioshock isn't on my priority list. I don't want to pay $40 for it (I could get other games I want more for $40) ...i highly doubt it'll hit $20 anytime soon, so i'll settle for $30. That's half the price of a new release

you know what i have not got a chance to play the game but seeing some of the reveiws and gameplay, definitly in my top 5 list to get. One thing that realy drives me crazy is when we get a tast of somthing new and original corporations go and mess it up buy trying to leach it. I agree with trunks they should have waited to see the sucess of the second title before make an announcment like that!

yes, I still need to get the game...had a blast with the demo. If you look around the net you'll see that fans love it and it was critics liked it as well.
