I joined the army

Yep, yesterday I was finally accepted into the Army National Guards. Was the longest day of my life I swear, long azz physical crap, but it was worth it. I was always thinking of joining and then my 2 friends joined and then one wanted me to join, so I said f it, im doing it.

Plus side is I scored high enough on my ASVAB to get all the extra benefits such as school first and all that good crap. So there ya have it. Gotta get my hair shaved this week or next. Gunna miss it for sure, but its just a small sacrifice.

Get shipped Oct 6 to go to bootcamp for 9 weeks. Going to be a 21Bravo, or Combat Engineer in other words. Wanted to be a mechanic, but no spots, so went with this.

Kinda gay they had no uniforms left since so many people are joining, but im getting it next week hopefully :)

So anyways, just thought id post that. Im perty psyched about it :spinny:

congrats, I almost joined the Navy and the Marines back in high school, but then after careful planning, I didn't get on with it, they offered a lot of money for school but i dont know, never went with it

this was before GF was born I believe (navy) and the marines got to me right before graduation

have fun at the boot camp! Let us know how things go, good time to join since bush is going out of business...

Thanks guys. yeah I had to join now or never since the benefits have basically ended. I joined just in time b4 they did. Proves how crappy the economy is getting.

I think it was a good decision for me. I mean I didnt really have anything planned after high school, so what better to serve the country and get free schooling in the making and also have fun doing it.

wait wat? like the 20k bonus is gone? explain further. cause if the big bonus is gone then I'd rather not because if I do join i'd be one of the ppl that train 1 weekend a month.

I bet he's talking college benefits, which makes sense because they will pay full ride to any public school in the country, that's probably a lot of money a year.

depends on where you go and public colleges aren't as expensive as those private ones, i go to a private one and pay out of my butt every term....I'm just happy i had the brain to get good scholarships lol and my parents were against the idea of me joining the military anyway and back then I needed their signatures to join cuz the Navy had me lol...they just didn't convince my parents, and the marines didn't even convince me well enough

Yes, im pretty sure the sign on bonus is going down jan 31st, at least thats what I got by what my recruiter said. I know the regular armies went down to 5000 not long ago, thats why I jumped in when I did.

I dont know what other benefits their taking away, I just know he told me he wanted to get me in before then so I could get everything before it was too late
