Steve Spagnuolo, who spent two seasons as the New York Giants' defensive coordinator, has been hired by the St. Louis Rams to be their next coach.
No official announcement is expected until Monday at the earliest.
Spagnuolo, 49, agreed to a four-year deal worth about $12 million, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Prior to his Giants experience, Spagnuolo was a defensive assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles from 1999 to 2006.
ESPN senior NFL analyst Chris Mortensen had reported earlier in the day that the Rams had narrowed their picks to either Spagnuolo or Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Jason Garrett.
The strong feeling from inside the organization is that Rex Ryan will be the next Jets coach. Ryan had been the Rams' No. 1 candidate, sources told Mortensen.
