most DVDs will play burned DVDs if the movies are burned properly - phillips one is pretty good, I remember my dad got this samsung one or something a few years ago and it cost like $150 - back when DVDs were just making a breakthrough

$29.99 is a great price imo

DVD +R, -R, RW - they'll all work if the videos that are burned are burned properly. The videos have to be encoded while burning so that DVD players can read them. But yeah you can burn the movies from your pc and play it on there.

WinDVD burner and Nero are two good programs that converts and encodes the videos for dvd players. I've done it before with random vids.

edit: read this: Philips DVP642 Video Players and Recorder reviews - CNET Reviews (http://reviews.cnet.com/video-players-and-recorders/philips-dvp642/4505-6463_7-30959433.html)

said they tested it - some people state it to be buggy and stuff..
