I personally like XP for my gaming. Games just run smoother and I'm more familiar with it. However, I plan on building a newer gaming platform and with the newer and better video cards/cpu's/mobo etc. comes better gaming from Vista's unique DirectX 10. Is it really worth all the trouble of getting a new HDD just to write XP on it, when I can run stuff from Vista. I figure I'd ask the audience since there are a variety of opinions and users out there that can offer their input.

I've never played any big time games on Vista - the only computer of mine with vista is one of my laptops and I don't generally use laptops for gaming anyway.

So XP for me

I have Direct x 10 running with XP right now, you don't have to have vista.

But I like XP better, awhile ago when I had vista, I kept getting errors when I tried to play WoW, probably fixed by now. But XP is just faster and don't have to worry about glitches.

That's what I was looking for. A user who had Vista at one point and tried playing WoW on it. For now I'll stick with XP then. If someone out there is currently playing WoW on Vista, after the new patches/releases etc, please post your opinion.

BTW Thanks for the update on DX10, I wasn't aware you could run it on XP.

Yea I heard many WoW related issues with Vista instead of XP. So yea XP is ftw.

For me, Vista is horrible. I've got it running on my computer now, and it's really slow, horrible for gaming
XP ALL THE WAY ;D

I think Vista suited your best while gaming in max becuase the XP doesn't support More Ram Memory & Processor what I think.
I'm using Vista becuase I can played every games in MAX without lagg in 60FPS.

Yea that's true about the Max Graphics. I'm now running one All-In-One on Vista and one All-In-One on XP. So far I love the XP performance but I love the Vista graphics and most of the gaming bugs that have been reported or talked about are seemingly gone right now. I honestly have no issues with WoW on either but I play Eve on Vista and it's just beautiful. Again, thank you all for your views and input from both sides.

xp 64bit can handle more than enough ram. and it can handle a pretty big cpu as well.

ya know honestly, I didn't think this thread would be this popular. I'm proud of myself lol. True about the 64bit, unfortunately I'm using 32bit xp :(

I have 32 bit as well, but i have 4gb total ram, the system can only recognize 3.5gb

and you won't use more than 2.5gb ram that easily - I run a crapload of programs and I rarely go above 2gb ram usage - the only time I went to almost 3gb was when I was designing a new site, i had photoshop and dreamweaver open and I turned on CS when I took a break lol

32 bit isn't so bad and most computers won't need more than 2-3 gb ram - servers will need more since they tend to have more users.

I use Vista merely because I haven't found any flaws with it since the crappy, preemptive launch it had. D:

It helps to let your 3rd Party Developers know when you're going to put out your produce.
Duhr duhr Duhr.

We have a gaming center in Irvine, CA. You'll never see Vista machine running our games.

I don't like Vista. Too flashy, too much security crap. It's a pain in the ass.

I always game on, and use XP and only XP. i would use Linux but i don't know how that is on gaming. I think i heard it's not that great for gaming but i could be wrong.

you can't play modern games on linux, well most distros of linux but I believe Red Hat Linux can play a few modern games, but I've never tried it - you can still play the old school games like pac man and stuff on it lol, I run Fedora Core 8 at home and it has a few games in there, never tried them though

Windows XP is a lot better in my opinion if you are going to be mostly gaming on it. I find that Vista just had too many errors and incompatibility issues with many games.

I prefer XP for gaming. I found vista crashing my system and making display like 128colors sometimes.

XP. Because lots of games aren't compatible with Vista.Such as?...Anything that I've ever had problems running on xp could be run through compatibility mode anyway. Ive never had a game that couldn't be run on vista, not just vista but the 64bit version of vista. Granted there are some old old games that will give you problems but I feel as if saying lots of games aren't compatible with vista is a huge exaggeration...

Anyways I prefer playing game on Vista 64, guys your really going to have to move on some day because dx10 definitely is better. Not to mention that vista 64 is more stable as I understand it than xp 64. And playing games in 64bit mode is definitely a FPS booster (Crysis for example).
