MySpace.com has identified and removed 90,000 convicted sex offenders from its popular social-networking site, according to one of the dozens of state attorneys general who pressured the site to beef up its safety standards.
MySpace.com's chief security officer said in 2007 that the site has "zero tolerance for sexual predators."

Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, who spearheaded the campaign to subpoena MySpace, told CNN Radio that he found the number "appalling."

"These convicted, registered sex offenders clearly create profiles seeking to prey on children," he said. "This revelation is totally appalling and unacceptable, and this shocking revelation, resulting from our subpoena, also provides compelling proof that social networking sites remain ripe with sexual predators."

MySpace's chief security officer, Hemanshu Nigam, issued a statement: "As the first and only social networking site to use state of the art technology to identify and remove registered sex offenders from its site, MySpace is proud of its leadership position and hopes that Facebook follows our lead in providing their members with the same protections. As part of our longstanding partnership with law enforcement and state attorneys general, we will continue to readily provide information on these removed offenders for their investigations."

In May, MySpace announced that it would provide the coalition of state attorneys general with information on sex offenders who use the site.

"We have zero tolerance for sexual predators on MySpace," Nigam said at the time, as he introduced a tool known as Sentinel SAFE to track online sex offenders.

MySpace had initially refused to comply with the subpoena, citing federal privacy laws.

I think this is the 2nd time since I've been a member here that they've done this, they should work faster at kicking them out.

That's gross. And also the reason I don't have myspace.

More reason not to have one.
Along with other reasons, this one is pretty high on the list.
I don't understand the point in these, but whatever. Good job getting them, though.

Well, I enjoy being on social networking sites.
You can only cause trouble for yourself by talking to people you don't know.

Well, good job for them.

Same.
And yup, it's ok as long as you watch who you talk to and don't give out personal info.
Anyway, glad they caught them. >D

I don't do the whole social networking thing but I can see why people do.

I'm not a big fan of the social networking sites either, I have friends always tell me stuff about it lol - i remember when MySpace was the "thing" back in the day and I used to always get "IMs and stuff with "CHECK OUT MY NEW LAYOUT DUDE" - no..

I have accounts and all, just not a fan of the whole thing - and I don't add anyone I don't know as friends

MySpace has lost value over the years. Still 90k sex offenders is horrible..i agree that they should be faster with this

I got facebook, and ive only really met one new person on there. All my other friends on there I know personally. Not everybody you meet is bad. Heck ive met this girl in person twice now, and shes cool. She lives a state away though. Just proves you can meet some decent people out there.

lol, just imagine meeting someone else that sounds like the girl but this time when you go to meet her, a fat bald guy with an unbuttoned shirt and approaches you asks "are you eric" lol

I do agree that you CAN meet decent people, but there are instances where you come across people acting to be decent and it turns into some perv - that's a huge reason why I don't like it when my little sister goes on social networking sites.

I don't like them cause I find them pointless, but also for that reason, lol.
Now, does a Forum go under "Social Networking Site"?

technically no, it is a social site, although I have to say that vBulletin is pulling towards social networking with the adding of friends and profile comments - I won't say that's not social networking but the actual forum part of it can't be called social networking - although it's social interacting

I don't know...I can't think of anything else to say regarding that lol - it's mostly technical stuff and some personal opinion

Ah, ok.
I was just wondering, because I can see how it can be considered one, and can't be considered one. Thanks for giving your opinion, lol. I didn't really have one.

Yeah I get ya. But its different like that. I mean I could defend myself. Its the young girls that are the biggest targets. I just watch what I do on the net
