Question for Metal Gear Players?

Hey. I've decided i want to pick up the metal gear series so i'm going to get mgs2. But then i realized that there is Sons of Liberty and Substance. How different are they, and which one is better? Does substance completely change the gameplay experience? Oh, and one more thing. I heard you don't play as Snake for most of the game... is that true? Thanks. Oh, and i'm not sure if this goes in this topic, so please move it if needed, mods.

Substance is a sort of special edition, it has lots of extra stuff, im not 100 percent, but i think you could skateboard?

But if your new to the series start with the ps1 MGS or Twin snakes on the GC, Its best to get the whole plot, you can try the MG games too, i did, but only got half way through the first, im not good with retro games, so i just read the plot summerys online lol

Then play MGS3: Snake Eater.

Haha, sorry dude, already beat metal gear 2. :) Raiden really got on my nerves too. Haven't played the first one yet though, and as a result was just like:confused1: the whole game. Where should i get it, ebay?

I would look on Ebay and maybe local game shops, Half.com, Amazon.com, and wherever older games can be found. Lucky yard sale, mayhaps?

Half and Amazon will be the best finds, however Amazon is usually pricey.

In the opinion of this member they should do a remake of MGS, change but give it a nice HD overhaul. I played it back in the day when I was maybe 12ish and barely got into the 2nd disc and bought the essential collection right before MGS4 came out and intended on beating 1 through 3 before 4 came out and needless to say I didn't get to far because the graphics were so god damn aged, needless to say I didn't beat 2 or 3 before beating 4...I am t3h failz

If he can't play a game for the story and put aside the aged graphics - then he surely can't date a woman with a good personality who isn't OMFG Supermodel attractive.

Anyways, there's metal gear solid yeah just 1 version.

Then metal gear solid 2. Sons of Liberty is just the basic game. Substance is like a special edition that comes with some bonus stuff, some extra chapters played as snake, VR training, and skateboarding section.

Then metal gear solid 3. Theres snake eater, which is just th basic game. Then there's substance which has Metal Gear 1 and 2, (they came before metal gear solid) and it has an alternate camera control, and online play. The version of subsistence in the essentials collection doesn't have the original 2 games or te online play, sadly.
