$160 million is too rich for Universal blood, but production on the movie should resume after some budget fiddling.

Variety is reporting that Universal Pictures has suspended pre-production of the BioShock movie. The studio has apparently become concerned about the budget of the Gore Verbinski-directed film. While certain production staff members have been let go in the meantime, Universal and Verbinski are considering options like moving shooting from Los Angeles to London in order to reduce the budget down from an estimated $160 million.

"We were asked by Universal to move the film outside the U.S. to take advantage of a tax credit," said Verbinski. "We are evaluating whether this is something we want to do. In the meantime, the film is in a holding pattern."

Despite this move, Variety's sources indicate that both Universal and Verbinski (who declined to direct the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film for this project) want to make a BioShock movie happen. As soon as Universal is satisfied with the budget, the film is expected to move forward and not be cancelled like the Halo movie.

160 million for a video game movie, that is hilarious. Would lose so much I'd reckun. better cut that by more than half

After your last encounter with being disastrously wrong on the DBZ film, I will have to see the trailer to make an educated decision, but I think BioShock might stand a way better chance than the cheese-tastic Doom.

BioShock's sales exploded when it came out and the hype for the game was incredible, by far - so I think it would be safe to say that there's a possibility of breaking even within the first few months, depending on how realistic they make the film to pull in non-gamer types for a scary, horror movie thriller-type.

We'll see.

If that 160 million budget stood that'd be 29 million more than any video game adaptation has ever made domestically

Edit for interesting stuff:
If this is true, Foreign markets really carried DBZ movies as it's at 55 million WW

DragonBall Evolution $45 Million (http://liveactionanime.org/2009/03/31/dragonball-evolution-45-million/)

@ Exo, I really depends on the budget. I mean Doom really didn't lost that much. 60 million budget, and made 55.9 WW. armchair opinion at best but I wouldn't green light the Bioshock project with a budget over like 70 and that's still pushing it, time will tell.
