Temporary Gmail Ban

I've had to temporarily ban all gmail email accounts from being used in new registrations. If you are currently using gmail for your account, you don't have to worry but if you are trying to switch your email address to your gmail account, it won't work.

Over the past week or so we have had a few people use gmail has their main email source to create about 200 total accounts using proxies. Hoping the useless registrations will calm down I've banned gmail accounts for the next 7 days. It can be shortened or increased depending on the results.

If you have any questions or know any other email sources that should be banned because they are known for their spam please let me know in this thread and I will get straight to it.

if gmail is set for you already then you don't have a problem - you'll still get emails

email bans just mean you can't register any more using that email provider AND you can't change your current email to that email provider. if you already have it set to the banned email, it won't really affect* you.

I think that one is silly Linux, a lot of users are using Gmail or Hotmail, Gmail is one of the populations since it's never run out of spaces, for myself I don't mind it since I already in Gamers-Forum but what about others that are trying to sign up with Gmail? Okay let's see how this work in a couple of weeks if this turn better. :)

the guy i was speaking about actually activated about a dozen or two with the URLs filled out and whatnot which counts as a backlink from GF to search engines.

I really must agree with Blackbird on this matter, but I see where you're coming from too. I have like 6 accounts through Gmail and each of them are used for different means. Efforts. Etc...

But eh -- out of 100 joins, maybe 5 are viable at this point. And maybe 1 of them will outlast a month. So who knows.

well this gmail ban is actually working, I've seen less people get banned a far less retards coming on to spray their spam around...

I personally have 3 gmail accounts - 1 personal, 1 business, another business. the business ones look more "professional" :D

yea thats why the ban is temporary - I'll turn it on and off over the summer and see how i really affects activity

Good one. If a person really wants to join they'll use 1 of the other bazillion not banned. tbh Eps I dunno if you haven't noticed even when gmail was legal we were drawing d1ck for new members weren't spammers, so It's not like we're cutting the forums life line.

less spam, I've seen less spam threads and posts get deleted, also have seen less people get banned the past week

I'll be unbanning it tomorrow and then keeping an eye on everything for the following week.

I wonder why spammers choose Gmail, It's not like you can't do the same thing with yahoo and hotmail.com

maybe because years of spamming of yahoo and hotmail and made it take to much time to quickly create hundreds of email addresses and gmail is relatively new and has more name options.

I've used it since beta too - the only way to get in was with the invite and you started out with like 50 invites or something yourself

gmail has been unbanned - now to keep an eye on how many bans we get over the next week.
