The title say it all. List your favorite RPG of all time and a brief explanation as to why.

For me i would have to say Super Mario RPG is still and will always be my favorite. I no super mario fanboy (actually i think he has gone down with new releases). It had great game play and a pretty good story. This with a mixture of funny references and saying from some of the players makes for a great game. Plus the introduction of different characters (geno whirlwind crits you for 9999 biznitch) keeps it away from previous mario games. On top of all this you get to control Bowser......yay.

Excellent topic and first choice, my friend. Lol.

SM RPG is a wondrous game. Hysterical fun. Great characters you know and love.
Cool storyline and adventure. Plus. It's RPG?! And Mario!?

Personally, my all time Favorite RPG is Final Fantasy Tactics.
I love strategy. The storyline is fraggin' amazing. The character depth is great.
The graphics aren't that bad for how old it is and it's style. The job classes -- so awesome!

this topic again huh.

legend of dragoon is and always will be my favorite RPG. why? because it just simply rocked. the battle system was extremely balanced and fair, but required skill and wasn't just fall asleep holding the O button like FF7 was. the plot was great, the characters were fun, and the music was fantastic. i've yet to hear a better soundtrack (FF7 comes close)

Final Fantasy VI:

Great cast of characters, awesome music, awesome boss battles (the villian actually succeeds in his plan and that's what makes him evil). Unforgettable moments (Opera house, Kefka final fight, etc.)

All of the Geneforge games. Google them. Anyone who likes old school RPG's will like them.

Fable or Fallout.
Fable? I loved the characters, graphics, missions, story plot. I played this game for hours and never really got bored. I liked the evil/good states that your character can have in the game and how it effects the story-line and how your character develops around your choice. And even if you were good or bad through the whole game, at the end they still give you a choice of being Evil or Good.

Fallout 3...addictive gameplay, just, everything.

IF MMORPG counts then probably WoW

But, just a regular RPG I would say Last Remnant, even if I still can't beat it...

This may not sound too original, but Final Fantasy has always been a fav of mine since the first one and they've only gotten better with each one. 12 is great.

it would be a good idea if you would introduce yourself, by making a new thread in the New Gamers section, instead of just doing a random post.

Sacred 2 is a "sand-box" RPG, which means that you can pretty much go anywhere on the map, however, you will encounter some really strong monsters if you roam too far out of the storyline.

Mass Effect was the one that impressed me the most. The main story was, in a word, incredible. Also very well written was the dialogue. If you choose to go the Renegade route you'll hear some pretty hilarious lines. The possibilities are seemingly endless, and to this day I'm still finding new ways to complete missions.

I have to agree with OP, Super Mario RPG was the bomb! I like Final Fantasy a lot. Im not a fan boy or anything but I played FF7 a lot when I was a kid, I never got tired of it.

New RPGs that are coming out are really getting repetitive. I wish they would find a new way to make things interesting.

Final Fantasy X. The story was so incredibly powerful, the combat system agreed with me and the characters were enjoyable. Even Seymour, I could love him for being so well written in his madness.

Though, I'm not done with VIII or IX just yet, they might get my top spot.

I'm going to have to go with The Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind. It's such a sweet game and I wished that oblivion followed the form of it's predecessor more closely. Morrowind was a hard game, but so rewarding. Imagine oblivion with enemies that aren't at your level. If you want to loot an awesome place, you have to be at an awesome level. Imagine oblivion without the compass and getting straight directions to find a place. Imagine oblivion without fast travel. If you put all of those things together you get morrowind. Not to mention that Morrowind is more of an rpg than oblivion is.

Chrono Cross/Trigger. I myself prefer CC but I know a lot of people who would kill me for that. Nothing can beat out this game for my top spot, even though I love a lot of the games mentioned
