Agreed with this, this Cash for Clunk reform is retarded with a capital R

i agree with that as well - most regulated stuff don't come in plain language because the people that write them want to sound sophisticated and make people think they know what they are doing.

Actually, if you check in on it...

It's no longer available, last I heard.

Something like 23,000 people used the "Cash for Clunkers" and now that fund had run dry.

I still see commercials for it, unless that news is from today.

I do too, and I think it's to stimulate people to still go and look at buying cars, but lemme see if I can't find some info where my dad and I heard that from. ;)

EconomistMom.com What?! No More Cash for My Clunker? (http://economistmom.com/2009/07/what-no-more-cash-for-my-clunker/)

NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) — This much seems certain about the Cash for Clunkers program: Consumers are happy to take government rebates to buy new cars.

The fate of the $1 billion trade-in program was up in the air late Thursday over concerns that it may have already burned through its funds less than a week after it was launched.

Congressional sources said earlier in the day that the program would be suspended…

As of Wednesday afternoon, nearly 30,000 Clunker transactions had already been submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agency said, with requests totaling almost $96 million in disbursements.

I know the senate was suppose to vote on throwing another 2 billion in, I guess they voted no? Good thing if yes. Kill this program and write up another that isn't so retarded, make it simple. 136 pages of rules is not simple. Make a list of qualified cars to sell and buy and make a .gov site, is that so hard?

its from a few days ago - I know I saw some commercials about that last night while watching the simpsons.

and i agree with jak - they need to make things a bit more simple with the rules. they just waste time with all the rules and they are sometimes saying the same thing 5 different ways.

at least the idea worked in getting people to buy new cars and recycle the old ones.

I need that...
