Raven Software Lead Designer Manveer Heir has laid down a challenge to gamers: buy enough copies of Wolfeinstein to beat Madden 10 on the NPD Group's sales charts, and he'll refund your cost of the game. Is it likely to happen? No, but the buzz created has been very real.
This is one of the more interesting promotions in recent memory. If Wolfenstein outsells Madden 10 in August, one of the designers of the first-person shooter will refund you the cost of the game. At least, that's the deal laid out via Raven Software's Manveer Heir's Twitter account.
The rules? You have to buy the game in August, you have to have a copy of the receipt, and you have to follow Heir on Twitter. The sales information from the NPD Group will be used to determine if Wolfenstein has truly outsold Madden. If all those conditions are met, then you just earned yourself a free game.
It's doubtful that a shooter can take down the yearly juggernaut that Madden has become—it's safe to say that Heir won't have to worry about the ol' bank account, in other words—but this is a clever piece of marketing to get people talking about the game. Will it get more people to buy, hoping to push the sales over? Possibly. Has it gotten all the gaming blogs talking about Wolfenstein? Definitely.
The world explode if it out sold the PS3 or 360 version. It may have a shot at the Wii version but that is also doubtful, didn't they drop all-play and give Wii a proper Madden?
