Does anyone have it/tried it/know anything about it?
I'm interested because it's microsoft office compatible apparently.
Just wondering if it's worth getting/a good alternative.

I've it installed for a couple of months, but it sucks sometimes when you open a document from office and you have to modify something that Open office can't keep from a Microsoft (.doc) document.
But it's free, easy to use.

So it's not -totally- microsoft office compatible.
Meh doesn't sound like it'd really help me much especially if it's just good for small stuff.

don't listen to jacob lol, I don't think he knows what he is talking about. You can do everything on open office as you could on Microsoft office. Maybe a few minor things are changed, but you can do "Big Jobs" on it. I use open office, I write my essays on it, for school, then put it on a pin drive and print it off using MS Word. I have only used Word and Power Point for open office. It's compatible with word, just some fonts, colors, and the margins won't carry over. But that stuff is just a quick fix, 5 minutes top. As for Power Point, you can't open it as a Microsoft Document. So if you only plan on using Word, then I would use it, but if you need to for excel, Power Point or something else, then i doubt it'll be much use.

Openoffice is one good application. You can use it portable mode as well. Portableapps site allows you to port the application on multiple OS. And compatibility of the application is good with ms-office and google docs.
