Newly Registered Users may no longer edit their profile until they have reached 10 posts and have been a member for 24 hours.

I'm sure many of you have seen the registration boom we have gotten and many of them are silent spammers, meaning they come in and just fill their profiles with URLs to spammy sites. Well I've had enough and I have turned that feature off - new users may no longer put in a home url or edit any information past registration.

User may still post their In game IDs (PSN, Gamertag, etc.) and gender during registration but may not edit it until they have reached the 24 hour 10 post requirement.

I would rather see this site have more activity rather than have tons of people sign up for no reason other than to drive me crazy.

Questions? Concerns? Post here.

I just wish there was a way to stop kids from going around posting about Free games and saying "PM ME OMG PM ME FREE STUFF OMG PM ME"

I find that more annoying than profile ads.

Such a think will never stop Linux, you should think about this a bit earlier, but I'm glad you did that, less jobs for us :)

Good idea on the profile thing, that's been annoying. Too bad those other posts are hard to stop... unless we could turn off their PMs but they probably wouldn't even realize it and they'd post anyway. Ah, spammers.:spinny:

Good to hear. I was also thinking

if you made it to where you could not post until a hour after registration that would stop 50% or more of the spammers.

although I like that idea, can't do that. People can't post until they go past registration and activate their accounts through a link in their email anyway.

And the hour wait may drive away legit members, especially ones that want to get their opinion down on a certain subject they found through a search engine or something.

you should censor "go to this site" or something. haha.

I would, but it would sensor that for everyone and it would sense each individual word - yay vbulletin.

And this thread is about people's profiles - they spam through their profile - it has gone down dramatically over the past few days...I should have thought of this earlier.

Eh, that's a pretty good idea.

Did you also make it impossible to post reviews....?

Since I don't have permission to do that either I find these limits annoying.

Only game reviewers are allowed to pot reviews, we don't allow just anyone to do it.

And it doesn't matter if you find the limits annoying, they work for us as they have for a very long time.

I didn't mean to offend or make myself seem unruly. Simply stating my opinion on the matter.

No offense taken, my response was more for the general public because I highly doubt you're the only person annoyed by this. Imagine how many spammers are actually crying over this.

I have better things to do than imagine.

Like...post this message.

I understand why it's in place and perhaps I thought at first it was a bigger chain made out of stainless steel. Now I realize it's more like a shackle with the key installed in it.

All I have to do, is turn it.
