For me, it depends. I'm more towards not giving the death penalty to anyone, but if you kill someone I love, I will want to kill you myself. But that's not really the death penalty...but you get the point.
I'm against it because:
1. It's the easy way out - someone killed 30 people and instead of suffering for the rest of his life, the misery just ends for him. Too easy...
2. Like you said, what if the person didn't do the crime? You put him to death and 10 days later, evidence comes out telling you he didn't do it. That's a problem.
3. Killing a murderer makes you no better than a murderer.
4. Death penalties nowadays are carried out by lethal injection, supposedly the least painful way to kill them. Why should we make their death painless for a crime gruesome enough to get them the death penalty in the first place? I never got this part. Just let them live with the guilt and make them work for the rest of their life.
I have more but I can go on forever about the subject and argue from both sides. NYS doesn't have a death penalty anymore. Well they do, but the statute explaining the sentence is a little confusing and state courts won't allow this to be considered a sentence until legislation fixes it, and I don't think it will happen anytime soon.

An eye for an eye.
If only I was President or had my own country....hmm, the wonder.

I agree with Linux's points... I mean, sure, there are reasons for it. But in the end it's just death, which isn't much of a punishment seeing as how it's inevitable. If you want to punish someone, make them feel pain physically or mentally. Now I'm not saying I'm for torture, but the death penalty just doesn't seem like the right way to go. Then again, I'm the kind of person that really values life.

I am for the death penalty, I live in a country that uses it and the crime rate is really low.
The thing with the death penalty is that once the govt. uses it it will scare people. Its a human instinct that people don't want to die so in that case they won't even commit the crime. If someone killed another person ESPECIALLY IF THAT PERSON IS INNOCENT that person should be killed and I'm sure that other people will learn.
Also the death penalty will restrict you from killing the person yourself, as Linux said! It will prevent you from committing a crime yourself because you know that the govt. law will bring justice.
Over here in Saudi Arabia on Friday's people who have committed a crime that requires the death penalty, he is be-headed in public. Now if that doesn't scare criminals what else would?

If only they did that in the US. I agree that public death penalties would act as a bigger deterrence than anything else. But the laws here are designed to help out criminals (unless you were arrested during the Bush Administration and were considered a "terrorist") - and that's why there are 2.5 million people in the prisons right now. That's more than any other country.
But the system we have now is highly inefficient and ineffective to deter others so until they figure out a better system, crime rates in this country (for the same crimes that would get you killed everywhere else) will not go down (not drastically at least).

I'm kind of for it.
I think some people are just so messed up in the head they should die.
Serial killers, for instance.
I think there has to be something messed up in there or they wouldn't do what they have done.
Suppose it's better to just kill them, for everyone else and for them as well.
I'm still not sure how I feel about killing and murder and **** like that.
The serial killers I refuse to see as 'monsters' but as seriously deranged individuals who could not be helped.
Something like that.
Sometimes.
Whats worse though "You get to live in prison, get fed every day, and live the rest of your life." or "We are going to kill you."
Comfortable or not, if someone has the will to live, letting them live is letting them win.
...something like that.

I know it seems harsh, but I'm with it. Cause for some Criminals Jails is like a ride in the park and they don't care about it. so before thinking about how Inhuman It could be, Let's think about the Victim and what he suffered. we won't need to kill all the Society to clean it. It just take few death penalties and the Criminals will know that the Government Business and stop taking innocent life's.

I have been to Saudi, and It's really safe. people take the law seriously. and even for small crimes like shoplifting, the thug has to think about it like 767678643 times.

1) Its not the easy way out for them its justice for the family, if my family members were brutality murdered I expect the system to put his ass in the chair and give him a the needle, Personal i believe if you commit First degree Murder you should die, You planned out you were going to do harm and everything.
2) The system has killed people that were innocent I do agree, if we have evidence its joe blow and police do all they can to find all the facts and all they find is this its hard for joe blow to say "Hey jana blow over here did it." It sucks innocent people die but we are a people who go off the evidence and those who have the future of a man in their hands, the jury, take into account more serious testimony from victims and witnesses because they are speaking on their level.
3)Untrue, Killing a murderer proves that justice is being served, if a man takes a life he has no right to live himself because he doesnt honor life.
4)It has to be painless because 8th amendment, say no cruel or unsual punishment, it isnt right that man killed someone ripped the victim's body apart and did something screwed up, but you did say killing a murderer makes us a murderer, well if using the death penalty in a sick way, whatever way you can think of that is screwed up, think saw, that makes us sicko, weirdos and everything else because we went the extra mile to make sure this people suffered till their dying breath. It would make us inhuman.
The system demands justice so does the public without the DP we would have lynch mobs still, we would have people running around killing murderers, think Dexter.
Also the system would be over-filled and we would be screwed because the taxpayers would have to pay more and more to house these sickos. flip the switch give them the needle, hell let them get firing squad. Doesnt matter we need it.

if you think about it some people are put in that position even when that person did not commit the crime and do you still think all the people on death row should be killed?

Like i said if all the evidence they collect points to one person yet the other person did it its hard to point fingers when everything points to you

If you take the life of a human being, sexualy assault someone, or cause any type of harm to a child then I feel you are unfit to exist on this planet.

so you agree 100% that killing a child murderer would make you just as bad as that person?
That its the easy way out, to wait on death row for years knowing your date of death and all the suffering and money that costs?
that a humane way of killing someone is wrong and we should be torturing people to death? I mean move to Iran, stoning to death is quite popular there.
please explain...
