Okay so I'm really tired of looking online and downloading cracked Anti-virus software torrents. Its just not worth it because I had bad luck with them. Either the patches don't work, or the trial period ends and cracked versions aren't always what they appear to be. :mad1: (illegal I know..)

SO the good thing that I'm about to do is BUY an Anti-virus software from any store.

Question is: What's a good Anti-virus? (It can also be freeware too.)

No flaming please.

I use AVG for a few reasons .. it's affordable, well supported, and doesn't attempt to cripple anything else I'm running when it wants to scan. I believe you can still get a free version of it, although I'm not sure what the limitations are with it.

There are certain limitations, (I was on the FREE edition of AVG) it gave me some deadline when I need to BUY the software, I really dont trust buying an anti-virus online because i've had bad luck with that too... its like I gave my money away... and never received the download of the file. crooks.

I can understand where you're coming from .. but as someone who did go through that process with AVG and came out the other side I can say it works really well, and still continues to perform well for me. Also has email and browser support too now.

Yeah it has evolved, a friend of mine told me to order online and they will send me the disk through the mail.. I said, "really?" I think I might do that... but then again, I'm really cautious about giving bank info online with no anti-virus installed....
I only got spyware software installed.
And wow, when I met you, you had like 54 posts and new to this forum last month like me. you got like 100 some now.. (applauds)

It's all done with smoke and mirrors bud lol

Btw, iirc you can use paypal to pay for AVG if you choose to go for it, so you won't compromise your credit card or whatever assuming you already have it set up. However, if you don't have that then just install something to bridge the gap maybe?

Use Linux, no need to worry about Viruses :)

And going back to the first post, it's never a good idea to download a cracked anti-virus software...that's an oxymoron to me.

Go to download.com and get Free AVG - and live happily ever after. Free AVG is a very good anti-virus software. I have been using it for 3 - 4 years now and have never had any problems.

Yes, linux as of now has no issues of viruses. And there is one more way of safe surfing i.e using virtual machine boot into some OS and use browser. If VMware player is used then no session will be saved.

But if you don't want to go that way i suggest using either NOD32 or kaspersky.

I used a cracked version of NOD32, I liked it, but then again, it failed to keep up with updates, thats the thing with all cracked software.
there's always a certain flaw with these things.....

guys, I think I might buy McAfee.... at best buy or staples or somethin like that.
this FREEWARE antivirus i'm currently using (AVG)
is really using up the performance of my computer... ughhh.. so slow...
so does anyone have this? PROS & CONS of McAfee?

I've used McAfee years ago, it's alright I guess, but AVG does the job now - I'm careful about what I do on the net so I don't get many viral threats anyway.

And all Virus scanners use up resources when scanning, not just AVG.

I guess I'll head to the store and buy it today or tomorrow,
AVG I just tried it 2 days ago and it keeps giving me some trial notice... it thinks that I've used it before and it wants me to upgrade to the full version and I can't find my way around it....

McAfee, don't fail me now.

AVG is not free anymore so they can drop the trial period anytime. Why not try avast or avira ? There is also clamwin antibirus which is free.

too late, i headed to the store and bought McAfee...
so far, its good...
it works silently in the background and I was able to open up something without having to wait 2 minutes.

Don't forget antispyware software (spybot search and destroy). Just don't let it run with windows, use it once a week or when you surf to unusual places. Antispyware from the antivirus soft itself is not useful though.

Hey, I got that one, that ones cool, I like it and its free, keeps away a lot of spyware, how do you let it run automatically for once a week? I cannot find that option like a scheduler.

You mean antivirus or anti-spyware ? I think spybot can be scheduled, just have to look at the option.

nevermind I found it, (the scheduler option for the anti-spyware) its okay, thanks though.
