When I try to play some of my games I keep getting a screen resolution error,
(screen resolution needs to be 1280 x 800 to display game properly) resolution is already set to that setting, Dell tells me it is a software issue and will charge me to fix it. Any help is apreciated. Thanks

I hate dell..
And what kind of a screen resolution error are you getting and for what game?
Change the resolution around a bit - try both bigger and smaller. But the fix is probably software based anyway.

The games are Star Defender 4, Tiger Woods Golf and wheel of Fortune (the old lady likes that one) I have tried everything I can think of. A tech from Dell said I needed a Patch.

So, to answer the other part of what linux asked, is that standard resolution then - 800-600?
I'm not a fan of dells either ..

yeah, as Jango said, try out 800x600.
I had an issue with my CSS game a few weeks ago. my screen resolution is 1600x900 but the game wouldn't open. I had to make a few tweaks that opened the game in a 800x600 window which worked. I'm not sure of how to tweak your mentioned games though, but css has an area for launch options.

1280 x 800 I have tried every resolution and none of them work.
I will never buy another Dell!

Custom made PCs > Dell
But I doubt it's a dell issue anyway. It's the games that aren't able to run. How old are the games?

New. Star Defender 4 will run in a small window but not full screen. I get the error on full screen.

I can run the games if I open them right after I start the laptop for the first time, but if I pause or close the games and try to restart I can't I get the resolution error.

double-check the specs mate: System Requirements: Windows 2000/XP/Vista Pentium II 600 or better, 256 Mb. RAM 32 Mb. Direct3D compatable video card DirectX 8.1 or higher
most of the support sites suggest you contact either support@awem.com or awemsupport@gmail.com if you're receiving specific problems with gfx/resolutions and/or memory-related crashes

I have contacted AWEM but got no response yet. The other games came from Dell.

Aye I think that's your best bet tho giorge judging from some of the other support issues around the game, and how ppl solved them. Generally it seems the support ppl got back to them in 48 hours or so.

hm...check out Can You Run It
(http://cyri.systemrequirementslab.com/srtest/)
see if the games will fully run under recommended settings. Right now I'm suspecting your GPU although it's not very likely.
note that you have to download the software from systemrequirementslab when they ask you, it's completely safe.

This is a late post I know, but no one was able to solve the problem. A good place to start when troubleshooting this sort of thing is Drivers. Make sure you have the correct/latest video driver installed. I would also make sure that you have all of the other drivers installed as well, check for yellow ? in device manager. If you need help with this let me know mate.

Thanks for the reply, I have all of the latest drivers, what is the yellow? I looked but can't find any yellow. A Dell tech said there is a patch but didn't know where to find it and recomended this forum.

A yellow ? generally means that you are missing a driver. As for the patch I'll look that up for you. However in order to correctly look this up I need the exact model number of your pc as well as any relevant information regarding the problem that you have yet to mention. If anyone online has posted the fix to the problem, I may just be able to dig it up for you...

I t is a Dell XPS M1330 Windows Vista Home Premium (64 BIT) I try to play some of my games I get a warning as follows: The selected screen resolution is not optimal for this display device. Consider using 1280 x 800 to ensure the best viewing experience.
Resolution settings other than 1280 x 800 could result in a fuzzy display.
I keep getting that warning in full screen mode, it won't let me play the games every time I try I get that warning. Sometimes when I first turn on my laptop I can play with no problems unless I pause the game, then I will get the warning.

Transient Multimon Manager (TMM) - Vista Forums (http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/115320-transient-multimon-manager-tmm.html)
Follow that tutorial and tell me if it fixes the problem. I read online somewhere that that is the cause of the problem, hopefully it is...
