What are some straight up ghetto things that you have done to fix a computer problem?
For me a couple of weeks ago the fan on my cpu failed so I had to either buy a new assembly or somehow put a bandaid on it. So I grabbed a chassis fan from off of my case, after a knife cut away at some obstructive plastic on the fan I was able to mount it on the cpu heat sink and have been getting great cooling ever since.
Another thing I did that could be considered ghetto was that I ripped out a fan from a useless PSU and spliced a berg connector (Floppy power) and mounted the fan to my case for increased cooling.

Wouldn't call the following a "ghetto" fix but earlier last year, my sister's PSU died. The main 24pin connector became unresponsive.
So what I did was, to test it out, I just opened the 24pin connector from my own PSU and connected it to her mobo, put the cases together and powered them both back on. Her PC worked like a charm - mine was missing power of course. But I was able to get her homework out onto my laptop that way and she used that for a couple days until her replacement PSU came.
I should have took some Pics, You saw wires going from one case to the other. I even tried out her PSU connections on my pc, and just as I suspected the 24pin connector was dead.

This set up actually worked great, but I took it down for fear of my cats jumping up on it and damaging something...

The old computer in my room has a problem where it starts making this funny noise. It starts to move a bit. And then it crashes. I had this problem for AGES. One day, it happened right before i completed a level on a game So I went a bit mental and backfisted it. Suddenly, the noise stopped, the computer sprang back to life and i was able to complete the level. O.O magic or what?
So every time I use that machine and it starts making the noise, i whack it one. The only problem was when my laptop broke and i had to use the stupid machine constantly - i ended up with a black and blue hand.

smacking technology, it works.
Ghetto..
well I guess my modem+router set up is pretty ghetoo looking.
Cables running from the basement, up the stairs, to the main floor <:
Could call rogers and see if they'd move the modem to the main floor but they might cost us money which is UGH worthy.
But i'm gonna call them soon my mom keeps complaining about people falling or something..

joshr you have a nice pc!!
Thank you kind sir, however I must tell you that the computer that I have pictured above only had 768MB of ram with a 2.0 Ghz P4. Nothing all that nice, however if you were being sarcastic, I can laugh a bit at that. If you were admiring the ghettoness of the whole thing, then once I again I will thank you for your kind words...

okay uh...
the phone jack is in the other room, so I use a 50ft phone line to connect my router to the phone jack... and to keep it nice in an ordered fashion, I used tape to attach the phone line to the corners of the walls and the ceiling. quite ghetto. haha.
here's my ghetto fix.
hope you could see it.. I did the attachment option

joshr your "computer installed on the wall and desk completely bare" is PURELY EPIC.
My friend built a computer in a backpack... sewed all the parts in place and cut holes to install fans. It was his alternative to getting a laptop, it's pretty hilarious.
My brother was having trouble with his computer overheating, so he pulled off one of the sides of his case and replaced it with a window fan that was about the same size and fastened it on with a belt. Now, he gets a nice breeze in his room, a lot of... "relaxing" white noise, and sure as hell doesn't have any heat issues anymore!
I opened up my laptop to put some rubber O rings inside the enclosure where the hard drive was kinda buzzing/vibrating. It was enough to hold the drive down in place and shut it up and I haven't had any problems because of it! I was/am very proud of the successful procedure.
