Tarantino has been teasing the idea of doing a western as his next project for awhile now. Since it’s Tarantino, you probably shouldn’t take him too seriously. Still, it’s fun to wonder what a Quentin Tarantino western would be like. If he has his way, it’ll be about slaves.

QT offered more details on the proposed project to the NY Daily News this weekend. Talking about his idea he says, “I'd like to do a Western. But rather than set it in Texas, have it in slavery times. With that subject that everybody is afraid to deal with. Let's shine that light on ourselves. You could do a ponderous history lesson of slaves escaping on the Underground Railroad. Or, you could make a movie that would be exciting. Do it as an adventure. A spaghetti Western that takes place during that time. And I would call it 'A Southern.”

Give the guy credit. It’s an idea that’s never been done before. That’s saying something when you consider the number of wildly different Westerns Hollywood has created over the past one-hundred years. It’s also a sure way to court ridiculous amounts of controversy. "A Southern" sounds like the kind of movie even Tarantino might have trouble getting financed. The controversial has already been criticized in the past for his use of racially charged words in his movies. Spike Lee’s head may literally explode if Tarantino’s western gets done.

Interesting. Hopefully he can get financed if he ever decided to go with this idea
