Have any of you ever used Geek Squad?
If so, how were the prices?
Did they...even fix the damn thing
Did they charge you for them to look at it (about how much was that?)

Yea, i dont think i really have a problem about the time they keep it, since it hasent been working for a good, more than half a year. But as long as the price is good, i might consider it.
Might just take it to a local shop though

I've heard looooads of bad things about geek squad.... like when they come to people's homes they barely work and just fiddle around doing nothing to rack up the hours. There are lots of legit horror stories about them circulating the net.
Here's a site with some reviews

You're better off hiring a local computer geek. They are cheaper and most likely, they know a lot more than any geek squad member.

I'm with linux on this one because locally, there are better deals out there besides geek squad. When I went there to get my computer fixed at Best Buy, they just kept my computer for like 3 weeks and then they gave it back to me, within 2 or 4 days, my 'repaired' computer crashed again. Requiring me to spend money at a local computer place. I have to admit, it was cheaper than geek squad. (Geek squad charged me $79.25, whereas the local computer place was $37.29) I had to search for the receipts... haha.
and my dumb friend wont even listen to me after I told him this true story, he still prefers to go to Geek Squad to get his computer fixed.... (sigh)

Considering they charge $150 to hook an xbox up I am under the impression they exist to take advantage of people with to much money.

I agree with bob, they just wanna take your money, I'd rather learn how to hook it up myself

WELL
I got my laptop at bestbuy, so geeksquad repairs it for free as long as my warranty is still good.
HERES THE THING.
It broke, sent it in to them.
They sent it to .. some other repair place. They'll never tell you whats going on so if you do use them, I recommend calling at least once a week.
my laptop has been in for four weeks basically. A part was ordered and should have arrived march 8th, called on the tenth and they said the part would be in on the 16th. So now I'm gonna call today and see whats up.
Basically. The only reason I'm going to them for my laptop repairs is because it's free.
So I can keep sending it back and complain and such, but NEVER pay them.
Go to someone local who's trustworthy.
GeekSquad sucks.

I used to work at BestBuy. GeekSquad does suck. Please don't rely on them for anything. I work in IT all day. If you guys need anything that I can help with remotely, shoot me a PM. I'm more than happy to help.

A long wait...I could never wait that long. I have two laptops at home and a load of regular computers, I make sure that they are all working. I go crazy even if one stops functioning. I'd probably go crazy if I had to rely on the geek squad.

If I didn't have a desktop as well I would have.
And a PSP so that I could at least get on msn.
Unfortunately people don't treat my laptop as well as I might. Physical damage happens that I could not possibly even begin to imagine how to fix. ) :
