A few days ago, ComingSoon.net/SuperHeroHype had a chance to catch up with director Zack Snyder to talk about his upcoming movies, the 3D animated Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole, based on the books by Kathryn Lasky, and his first original project Sucker Punch.

Eventually, we got around to talking about Snyder's groundbreaking 300, which surprisingly played a large part in Snyder's recent decision to convert Sucker Punch to 3D. Apparently, Warner Bros. converted a section of Snyder's breakthrough into 3D to show the director how great the conversion looked, and while talking about it, Snyder confirmed the suggestion that fans of 300 may have a chance to see the full movie re-released in 3D in the near future.

"I saw maybe like a ten-minute section that they'd just done," he told us. "I haven't seen the whole movie but they're talking about doing the whole movie."

As interesting as that might be for fans of 300, so would be the fact that Snyder may direct the 300 prequel Xerxes once he finishes Sucker Punch next year:

"I'm waiting on Frank (Miller) for the sequel to '300' and there's a really good chance that will be the thing we do," he said, "He's been working hard, so he's supposed to show me something really soon; actually in the next few months, he's going to show me something. There was a big discussion about what we would do for the sequel to '300' and I said, "I didn't tell Frank what to write the first time, and I'm not telling him what to write this time," he told us when asked who came up with the idea for Xerxes. "I'll take it and I'll adapt it and make it into a movie and I'll write a screenplay, but I want him to do whatever he thinks. I'm not going to say I'm 100%, like that's it, but on the other hand, I'm pretty confident it's going to be awesome. That would be the next thing and then I'm working on a sci-fi thing that Kurt and I are writing together, an original thing."

You can read more on that and the rest of our interview with Snyder over on ComingSoon.net.

So this is the new upcoming trend? Instead of just remaking movies, remaking them in 3D the new fad?

the new 3D technology is incredibly innovative and (literally) adds another dimension to the visual presentation of the art. While the inspiration to redo other movies in 3D is to get on the rising wave of popularity over the concept and make money with it, the result is something that, in my opinion, produces works of art to be marveled at.

Just to pull a C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!, I'm all for it. I'd def hit up 300 in 3D :)

I disagree :P 300 is fine the way it is... I truly do not see the point of re-making old popular movies that were fine the way they were. The movie industry has gotten incredibly stale and shoots out so much ridiculous re-make garbage just for the hope of making tons of cash.... which you acknowledged, but I guess I just don't see the appeal of 3D anyway. I don't think it makes a big difference. Is it cool that they can do this kind of thing? Yeah, of course. But when I have the choice to see a movie in 3D or not, I pretty much am going to go for regular :/ Plus those glasses give me an awful headache

3D isn't innovative, they're just getting better at it. and they finally learned that just watching a movie in 3D is better than random stupid stuff popping out of the screen at you.

this isn't new, this is people finally getting over the gimmicky "have stuff pop out at you" thing that 3D was used for at first.

i hope people get over this because it's retarded. i'd rather focus on the actual scenes in the movie than the 3D crap. For some reason i feel like i miss out whats going on.

Spending any amount of time trying to convince you guys that you are in fact wrong would be a waste so I'll just say haven't you watched Avatar? 3D is awesome.

I still hate 3d and refuse to see any movies in 3d. ESPECIALLY MOVIES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN RELEASED.

Regardless of how awesome 3D is or isn't. I don't see how people could support Hollywood being lazy and creatively dead and see these 3D remakes at the theaters.

There's too much hate in here, yo, gotta let good things happen.

Eps - The new Real 3D Technology® has opened up a new (and not gimmicky) way for 3D to be used. Although, you did make a good call there - it's not innovative or revolutionary, per say, it's just an evolutionary concept of pre-existing 3D effects.

In any case, I'm still all for it :P I still don't see what there is to like about 2D over 3D.

2d is legit. It's watching something.
3d is a gimmick. like going to a crappy ride or something.

I will let GOOD things happen.
Not crappy 3d remakes/re-released things.
ITS LIKE TWO BAD THINGS
SMUSHED INTO ONE.

The hate isn't for 3D , new movies if they want them to be 3D whatever no problem. My beef is Hollywood is once again failing and once again doing a milk job to the industry. First it was remakes of movies and now it's remaking them in 3D.

the new Real 3D Technology whatever that was, if thats what they used in avatar it's 3D finally being used for what it should have been used for in the first place. It's not evolutionary at all I don't think. People have been using 3D as a gimmick since the beginning. When I heard Avatar was gonna "change how everybody thought about 3D" i thought it was going to be something spectacular. It was just 3D how I always thought it should be used. Cuz really, the first time I saw a 3D movie I thought "they should use it to change depth perception instead of just throw random stuff at your face"

and when I saw Avatar, the 3D kind of blurred some things, and it made it harder to focus on the movie rather than all the 3D crap. Like, it was incredibly distracting I thought. I think a more subtle use of 3D would be better.

My hate is for 3D and how everybody thinks that something that should have happened from the beginning is a big revolutionary new thing. Maybe the technology is finally starting to not suck enough to let them do it, but it's not really a big deal.

I saw it in 3D and 2D. Like I said, I thought that the 3D, while kinda cool, was distracting. I liked it better in 2D.
