I've been wanting to get back into making videos for reviews etc having not done one for a very very long time, and recently asked a couple of people in irc what they'd like to see from Dragon Age as a way to motivate me. So acting on their wishes, I've put together a very basic video to explain some of the combat basics - please forgive the vid though, I haven't made one in ages and am more than a little rusty hehe.

gah. Dont believe I never realised there was a pause mode. /facepalm
I never had the patience to bother with the tactics thing. just let my chars do whatever they decided to do... probably a bad idea.
It kinda looks better on the pc than it did on the console. Just the menu and the number of quickslots and all that.
Cheers for showing me how it's done. :)
Yes rai i totally agree. i Wish i had gotten this game for pc over the 360. I think the pc would have made it a bit easier to play and control your party.

Aye indeed. Well, when you first get one of the party members they have around 5-6 VERY basic tactics already set-up, mostly based around their basic abilities. To get the most from them you should review their tactics each time they level, so you can update tactic slots with new abilities learnt at that level. Often a very good idea once you get the party member is to add a tactic for them to use health/mana pots, and also review the basic tactics they have .. leaving them as default and not adding to them as you go through the game (whether Origins or Awakening) will seriously limit your chances of getting through some fights.
Just my two pennies worth :)
P.s. Thanks for the comments everyone btw. If there's another aspect of Dragon Age Origins or Awakening people would like to see, or have explained then let me know .. although I'm not the best at making videos I do kinda have the bug :P I'm looking for subject matter now, until such time as another game comes along ..

I set every character that I have to each one of the enemies and then I use Morrigan to cast spells and then I attack, if your character is not strong enough then it's best to let your four players attack one specific enemy to kill it faster.
