I don't have a dvd player on me at the moment because mine just broke today... (really? out of all times, how can a dvd player break? idk..)

the point is, I want to watch my dvds (& my sister's dvds that she gave me) on the computer....
but the real question is....

anyone happen to know a freeware dvd ripper? (one that rips dvds and puts it into a single .avi file???)

I've been doing research & I've tried many but failed in the process...
can you help me?

- thanks in advance

You failed to find it because these programs tend to violate copyright and distribution licensing of the DVDs. They just assume anyone using this is looking to duplicate the product to sell.

But if you want watch the DVD on the computer, why are you looking to convert it to a .avi file?

As Linux was kinda hinting at in his post, can't you just watch the DVD from your DVD drive on your computer? Why do you have to rip it?

For mac I hail by MacTheRipper - as for Windows I don't know an application to recommend off the top of my head...

because friends are all asking me to convert it again into the video format of handhelds, like psp/ipod/zune, etc....

but then again, its all illegal either way.
I could just watch the dvd thru the computer but then it skips sometimes. really really sensitive with scratches.... thanks anyway! Including diligence

Try for Nero's Burning Software?

The only problem then is you need to find specific codecs to crack through the security on the discs in order to burn them to PSP, DSi, or other places.

As long as you're not distributing or trying to make a profit, I don't necessarily see an issue with it, but it is a very fine line... I think this should be a mute discussion and locked up before it gets a little too ... wordy.

I'm not promoting any piracy, but Linux, if you insist, you can close this thread man.
(guess I won't find a 'dvd ripper' program due to copyright issues, guess I'll just get a brand new dvd player. haha.)
