Well well, here's a security question, I mean I feel like I'm not really protected.

Is it really necessary to leave the default windows firewall on? Leave it off & install a different firewall? If you happen to know any, please share.
I dont really trust the windows firewall...

The firewall best helps protect your vulnerable ports by opening only the necessary ports. If you have a router, you should able the firewall on your router and keep the windows firewall on. If you can find a third party firewall that replaces the windows one, you can use that. The firewall won't help protect you from viruses or anything but it is good to have something on to protect the ports. keeps hackers away.

So what you're saying Linux is that I should leave it alone? and no, I don't have a router, although I wish, but I really dont. its just a dsl modem.

I'm just saying you should have a firewall on. Doesn't matter if it's windows. I haven't had any bad exp with the firewall that comes with windows, but I've also always had a router with a firewall on so I don't know if that played a part.

well I just wanna advice you. Windows firewall should be turn off. why?
well, i believe you have antivirus software, so if you turn on firewall of the antivirus software then you should turn off the windows firewall.

If both are turn on, your computer might damaged and could lead to the blue screen of dead.

So beware...

And how did you come to that wonderful idea?

huh? you should know that the cause of the blue screen of dead is because of software counterfeiting, registry problem and virus...
so when there is two firewall active or working together, they could counterfeiting...

Link me to where exactly you found it on the microsoft website because you're just fibbing. Anti-virus softwares usually don't have a firewall and even if two firewalls are active, it has nothing to do with counterfeiting.

And blue screens are a result of Memory issues a majority of the time.

Elan, you haven't even read the things you linked me to. The first link tells me this:

Running multiple software firewalls is unnecessary for typical home computers, home networking, and small-business networking scenarios.

It's unnecessary, where did you read about counterfeiting and it giving you a blue screen?

The second link also doesn't say 'no' - it just tells you there will be connectivity issues and I already know that and that's why in my first response, I mentioned hackers and viruses instead of blue screens and counterfeiting.
