I'm on 7 now... but I have a Linux box running Ubuntu that I hardly use, and a machine running Debian that I just... like.. to ... play.. with.....occasionally... <.<.... >.>

i'm still on vista atm .. which is fine with me, i'm in no rush to upgrade .. that'll come with my next new pc (whenever that is)

do you mean upgrading from window xp to window 7?
i kinda have a bad news for you :(
it's impossible to upgrade from window xp to window 7 without losing your stuff but it's possible to upgrade from window vista to window 7.

So if you really wanna the window 7, i suggest you delete and format your hardisk and everything will be gone though. so take this change by saving some of your stuff on pendrive or external drive.

but if you have window vista you can easily upgrade it from window vista to window 7.

how do I know? cause i have the same problem before, cannot upgrade from window xp to window 7 so i format and everything... which seem to be waste :(

The desktop is an Acer Aspire T180-UA380B It has 2 GB ram and still a little slow. Windows 7 I am not too sure about. I chose mac_fan_boy as a user name just to see if I get picked on.

No SP3 yet, I think the SP2 support still runs until 2012. Plus more with the extended support.

Server 2008 is nice. Just flashy. Server 2008 R2 has more security features and a slightly different feel. But other than that, both are just about the same. You can install both for 60 days (trial).

I have full versions of both actually. As well as Server 2003.

I get a ton of free stuff from Microsoft through my school's Academic Alliance program.

Well I can't call it free...tuition is crazy expensive.

I also have SQL server 2008 R2 Developer.
