In their continuing effort to combat used game sales, EA has announced that they will be issuing one-time use Online Passes with all of their new sports games going forward. These one-time use passes will come with all new copies of the game and will allow you to access different features for each title, including online and multiplayer modes.

That means if you want to buy Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11, NCAA Football 11, NHL 11, Madden NFL 11, or NBA 11, you had better buy it new. Because if you don’t, you’ll have to pay an extra $10 to play it online. If you want specifics as to how your favorite game will be effected by the Online Pass, you can check out the official website here.

This didn’t seem like such a big deal when they did it with Mass Effect 2, because it was add-on content that was at issue. But now they are carving out already established pieces of the game. It makes me wonder how long it will be before this leaves the sports division and moves to other genres. How long before you buy BFBC 2 used and have to pay extra for the multiplayer?

Anyone have an opinion on this?

lmao this is so fail, but I guess business is business and EA trying to right their ship

Well I can kind of see WHY

I mean, I've never liked buying used because even buying used is still fairly expensive. If its a new game, regularly priced $60, then its sold for $55 or $50.

I mean yeah its ten bucks off, but none of that money goes back to the developers does it?

well, what i see happening is: nobody wants to buy used anymore, gamestop and such sells used sports games a bit cheaper, and they become worth even less when the new one comes out

I can see their point, but I think EA is wrong to do this. I mean, they can only get richer with or without doing this, I think if a game is not reliant on downloadable content then why enforce this one time use policy, I rarely buy anything from EA now. They tried to screw with the SIMS and they got punched in the face by the fans, right in the mouth.....bash.
......btw EA.... Spore sux.....
