irc is a chat facility (the quickest way to access it is thru the link in my sig)

as for editing your profile, you need to be with us for 24 hours and have made 10 posts before certain options open up to you

well if you click on the link in my sig (the irc one ofc) then you just enter your name and it will automatically connect you to the right server and channel - this is the easiest method

alternatively take a look at the irc thread (http://www.gamers-forum.com/showthread.php?t=13264&highlight=chat) itself for more methods and tips

if ur using xchat then that error/problem normally means ur not on the irc.gamesurge.net server .. so effectively ur in the wrong place. once ur on the right server u need to be in the #gamers-forum channel.

check the irc thread (link above in my earlier post) - that thread gives you a walkthrough of how to set-up xchat if u prefer to use that over mibbit

just be aware that mibbit (which is the fast link in my sig) is the quickest and easiest way to get on to irc with us using ur browser
