I bought this as an impulse buy over the weekend and I'm enjoying it quite a lot. Before this I hadn't played a Street Fighter title for well over a decade.
However, it's so difficult to learn. Even with the trial mode I'm struggling to learn combos. It might partially be down to me not using the stick on my PS3 controller correctly. I played against a friend yesterday and he recommended just using the d-pad.
So, does anyone have any tips on how to get the hang of the game for me please? :-)

I actually think the d-pad is harder to use than the sticks but that may just be me.. IThe only tip I can give is turn the difficulty mode to easiest because damn, that game is hard and still I see myself as quite good in fighting games :| (tekken, mk, doa etc)
I also enjoy the fact that there is like 3 different easy modes lol, couldn't they call it something else than easy? The rival and the last opponent really played me until I realised that there was two easier modes than easy :D

I played in normal and the last boss in Arcade is so hard to defeat and hear the time you lose but have finish him with a few characters.

Well yeah but that's pretty easy, lol my favorite is Sakura. I beat the Last boss with her all the time haha

get the arcade stick, it helps with combos and makes it much more enjoyable to play.

I'd only recommend an arcade stick if you've an above average commitment to this game. The only ones worth having are priced over $100 and unless you plan on playing a LOT of SSFIV, then it may not be a sound investment. The PS3 analog is worse than that of the Xbox360. Like how the D-Pad for the Xbox360 is inferior to that of the PS3. Pro players can easily tell you this and why, so I'll leave my proof to your individual searches on Youtube.
Part of the learning curve on the PS3 controller when using analog is the overactive nature it has. A Hadoken can turn out to be a Shoryuken, and pretty much anything with similar command input. That said, there is a fair deal of complexity in Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV. It's a thinking man's fighting game, if that makes sense. There's all sorts of things to do such as baiting, focus cancels, counters, juggle combos, etc.
If you've a character you use for your main in online and offline fights, I can give you some helpful hints and tips on how to play them effectively, useful combo attacks to use against certain opponents, and the various strengths and weaknesses your character has. If you think Arcade Mode is a difficult thing to master, you've not seen the technique some online players have.

One thing about playing SSFIV online that annoys me, is playing someone who uses the same two/three moves over and over again. It gets so frustrating!!
