Yes I did shut it down but long enough to weigh the positives and negatives about the channel. I was going to post this thread yesterday but due to real life issues, I was not able to and I forgot about it until I woke up to 3 more PMs about the channel.
I shut the channel down because it has a tendency to create drama. Rules or no rules. This is actually the third time we've had mods quit over IRC and some members leave because of the drama in IRC. If you think about it, it's pretty pathetic. I used to wake up to at least 2-3 complaints from IRC every single day. Even recently, I've received complaints from things that are happening in other non-GF related channels and that's something I shouldn't be concerned about.
I realize that the GF channel is here for fun chats but I would really appreciate if people would just stay away from arguing over the internet. After all, it is the INTERNET. There is no need to take things too seriously. If you feel someone is being offensive, either ignore him or leave the channel. If you feel you can't abide by a rule, then don't come in at all.
The IRC Channel has rules because the regulars pushed for rules but once they were set up, they no longer wanted to follow it, that's the hypocritical part of everything. I'm not saying it's everyone, but the few can sometimes affect the whole group, especially when it leads to the loss of two new moderators and Operators.
The IRC Channel is open again, but please follow the rules here: GF IRC Channel Rules - Gamers Forum (http://www.gamers-forum.com/showthread.php?t=13865)
The IRC channel and the actual forum will not be connected. If you mess up in the IRC channel, you will not get an infraction or a warning on the forum, instead I'm asking any and all mods to just permanently ban you from the IRC channel. No one else's fun should be ruined because of your actions. And keep in mind of the third rule of the channel, that's where most things get out of control.
And remember, it is the INTERNET. Do not take things too seriously and know when to back off. It's easy offending others especially if you're the kind of person that can't watch your mouth. Also please do not advertise any other IRC channels inside the actual GF channel. If you want to invite others, do it privately or don't do it at all.
