Ive been using Peerguardian for a while and I thought it was doing its job until i found out it wasnt it would block sites but wouldnt update certain lists to block what I really want, spyware, viruses, adware, maleware, all the good junk.

So i did a search and found peerblock this is pretty much the child of peerguardian and it works! I have 3 lists set up, ad,spyware and p2p.

On the downside if you just have the same list as me you will have to modify it so you can access certain government websites, they like to know who is looking at them.
Beyond that according to the program it is blocking: 776,293,718 IPs.

if you have children or others that use your computer, you can see where they have been, or have a list created and saved to the computer that you can look at and trace their steps.

It works and I like it already.

If your looking to protect your computer more there is a site you can go to and get more lists.

Good info. But blocking 776 million IPs? Wow...I control about 90 IPs in total, wonder if any of those are blocked.

But anyway, I've been pretty careful about the sites I visit, haven't had to use any programs like this. I also don't allow anyone to touch any of my computers or laptops which helps.

Well do remember linux there are people who waste time and money on the internet to try and steal information from others. Which is really sad, on my p2p list i have to modify it because alot of federal government sites are on the block list and since I will need them for research I had to go in check federal site after federal and make sure they are ok lol

Ah. Well, in case I have to visit a site I don't know about or is new to me, I actually search it on google first and then visit it through a proxy, and usually visit through my linux server at home to make sure it's safe. The server is right next to my computer so it's pretty convenient for me and you don't have a lot of viruses for Linux OS'.

But don't get me wrong, I like the post you have here, I know it'll be very helpful for a lot of people because as lemon pointed out, not everyone has the kind of computer luxury I have.
