So, I am starting a game on my university campus, hvz, and all the red tape I have to cut through to get what I want is unbelievable.

First i had to try and convince the dean of the university how nerf blasters are not a threat to the population of the campus. It wasn't really hard I made a few compromises and it shouldn't be a big issue, but my biggest issue is this. we have a paintball game every spring on my campus and people walk around with those around campus and they can do more damage yet are not seen as a threat like nerf Blasters. I havent heard of any stories where someone used it in a threatening manner, so im confused.

Next I have to find a club to sponsor this event, I picked my homeland security club to help bring in some new faces and let people learn about the world of homeland. Im getting help from my advisor which is awesome cause he can throw his own spin on things and it might turn out awesome. But mainly ive been the one running around by myself with people interested but no luck getting help yet

Lastly, Campus Police, I have to inform them that nerf blasters will be in use and that any calls related to people chasing others is nothing more then us doing our thing. This might be a big issue due to the fact some police cadets, students who work for the police department, think they actually have some arresting powers or law enforcement powers in general. Its werid.

I dont know im working my butt off trying to get this off the ground yet the red tape is just out of control, have concerns about safety but dont make me go through hoops to prove these blasters can do no harm

You should have a conversation with dili about this.

He organized HVZ on his campus and it's a thriving community there :P

I'm sure he probably had to go through all this kind of stuff, too?

I dont think so, because my school is so anal about this nerf weapon its unbelievable. They are so serious about this nerf you can actually be detained by campus PD for having this and or expelled off campus.

Its crazy as hell.

BUT on the other hand I do kinda wish one of those cadets would step out of line so i can shoot em down. They need to be put in their place, not all of them are bad its just those select few.

I'm with Muffin. Dili did a great job getting one started at his school. You should at least talk to him about it... Just see how he got started and the trials and tribulations he had to go through to make it possible.

Ive already talked to enough people about how to get it started, problem is the red tape and each school is different.

I spend the weekend at Ball State in northern Indiana talked to someone who has played the game for 6 semesters straight, talked to several different admins of the game, I was introducted to the current admin, at the time, he even gave me the name of a book where majority of the missions come from.

But they all told me the same thing, I never had an issue with the school because they offered up 2 papers everyone had to sign one said You agree to play by the rules and if you dont you can be removed from the game. Another said if you get hurt or anything You cant sue the school or anyone involved.

but its just gives me a headache trying to fight city hall and everything.

man I've been behind on threads... just getting caught up, sorry for the slight necro

I did have to do the same run around for my campus... I hear ya - it seems so silly sometimes arguing with various public safety/administrative offices about the fact that nerf guns shoot foam darts and aren't going to be a problem XD

I still talk to the head of the Public Safety office just prior to the start of each round and have had a handful of meetings with them were we drew up various rules and stipulations that I had the unpleasantly difficult task of trying to get all the game's players to follow and adhere to... it's loads of fun though when it all comes together.

You sound like you're on the right track, though. It really is a little different on every campus depending how stringent the officers/public safety is. Hardest part for me was getting my players to behave - came to good agreements with public safety on my campus. If they have a paintball thing every year you should be golden.

Have you had any rounds yet? Did it turn out?
