View Full Version : Post length and frequency limits - what are your thoughts?

We're considering increasing the limit on how many characters must be in a post and how frequently a user can make posts to attempt in combating spam, at least a little.

Right now, the limits are at least 10 characters in each post and at least 15 seconds between posts. Answer the poll and if you are so inclined, post your thoughts!

I'd say probably 15/30. That 30 second bit means that you at least had to give it some thought. Of course it is possible for people just to wait 30 seconds to do some copy paste action. I can say it usually takes me at least 30 seconds between changing topics and deciding what to respond with though.

I don't like the minimum letter count, but that's just because if somebody, for example, posts a really stupid topic i want to just say "no" and thats it but i can't lol

but that's a dumb reason to lower it. I think it should be a bit higher. I mean, the more letters needed, the closer to a solid post you'll get from a spammer

I believe it should be 30/60 or close to it because if its that high it would eliminate all the short posts/spam

i've been on some forums but i think maybe the characters should be increased a little but not a whole lot

Well , I only had a problem with people posting a small tid bit because . Back on my youthism account I would get yelled at for doing so . I try to fill my post with more content now . I think it is more filling to read at least a paragraph for each post . Other wise just go to IRC to talk . This is not a chat room it's a forum . but that is just me . In the spam area post a two word post for all I care . But I just like to understand how somebody feels without having to read seven small post . Instead just put it all out in one big post . Just like this one .
