Here's a tip for you: Unless you are very, very rich, do not charge people money to play an unauthorized World of Warcraft server. This lesson was learned the expensive way by Scapegaming. The one-woman company was recently ordered to pay Blizz $88,594,539.00. You could buy like 45 hamburgers with that kind of money! The 88-million dollar fee is mainly made up of statutory damages, with only $3 million representing money collected by Scapegaming in the form of players paying microtransactions for unauthorized World of Warcraft content.

If I had to bet, I'd put my money on Blizzard never seeing this cash, however. The $88 mil was a default judgment, and I seriously doubt a person/company that would not bother to defend itself against this kind of lawsuit is good for the money. All of this screams: Fly-by-night operation, ready to disappear at a moment's notice to me.

Whether "Scapegaming" will appear again, with a new name, remains to be seen, but with the kind of profit possible, it wouldn't surprise me at all.

only... 45 hamburgers? c'mon man, think MORE than that. with that kind of dough, you can get more than just 45 hamburgers... you can get like each comfort food by the thousands. that includes dessert. haha.

I wouldn't be surprised if it comes back with another name. $3 million is a lot of money to collect and assuming 99% of it's profit since you don't even have to worry about game development or anything, the only cost are the servers and you can great servers with just 1% of that money for several years.

If it was your IP,Intellectual Property, that was bringing you in hundred of millions, maybe even billions, a year I pretty sure you would sue them for that amount too.

hm...so do you do it to break even?

Cuz that could be an ingenious plan...testify in court that everything you were doing was non-profit.

hmm you could go to court saying it was non profit and they "donated" money to you by their own free will.

hahahaa

"if you look here your judgeliness, no profit was made, and so, they weren't really paying for the game, but instead.. servers and letting me have money for food."

Oh definitely.

And that's why Lemons should never go to court.

If i was going to lose a lawsuit I would say something stupid like

Miss judge do you take it up the ****** with a side of whip cream?

That's crazy.

Honestly, I want to see all these stupid WoW servers die. Not because it's WoW, but because the people that run them, try to make $ and say it's "donations" (in quotes) for server hosting and stuff. Yeaaah, bullsh**.

Poor ladie :( blizzard has to take everyone's money don't they from all the people addicted to the game and spend so much money you'd think that would be like front pocket change to them but i guess the ladie was doing no good for Blizzard then again 88 million is a little outrageous for a simple thing like that.
