Nothing really, I've learnt in life that sometime you should just stay out of s**t ... maybe I'd get to a safe spot then call the cops but theres no way that I would run after him haha except if I had my buddies with me :P

Nothing, not my problem. I dont know stock in the stores. I'd laugh and go about my day.

By my state law I cant do anything. I am not allowed to detain someone unless: I was the victim, victim ask for help, or it was a felony. Anything else is criminal confinement and a Class B felony.

Depends. If it's a kid, I'd stare him down, tell him to put the item back, and ask him where his parents were. Actually did that once at a deli. I was waiting for the bus outside, the deli door was open, I looked in and this kid (probably 9-10 years old) put a few bags of chips in his jacket.
But if it was someone older, not much I could do except probably point it out. But that hasn't happened yet. Just the one situation above and that was maybe 2-3 years ago.

Unless it's a pre-teenage kid, i wouldn't do anything really, i have far too many other problems myself.

Nothin, not a damned thing.
If they have the skill to get away with it, power to them.

like linux said, it depends. if its a person around my age, I wouldn't do anything.
but if it was a kid or a group of kids doing it, I would yell this across the store:
'hey! a fat girl has fallen & can't get up!'
& then people would look, & then they all witnessed the 'stealing session'. haha

lets see if it was a younger kid than i'd probably go over poke him with a stick and annoy him/her
now if it is someone older then i'm staying out of that for sure haha or just go tell the manager
ill knock em down and T- bag em.

This actually happened to me once, when i was on holiday. These 20-something year old guys were hanging outside a shop front and they were just randomly picking stuff up. The owner noticed started shouting and they ran off. he caught one and started phoning the police. They guy broke free and ....without thinking about it... at all... I stuck my foot out and tripped him up. I felt guilty.. 'cos he landed hard on his knees and he started shouting and whining at me in German. And then like 4 police cars came.... And I actually bruised my toe in the act. And my mum was like "WHY DID YOU DO THAT!?! what if they're part of a gang and they try to get revenge" Which was awesome... just what you want to hear after trying to do good. So yeah.... I rect without thinking, for the sake of good... and then feel guilty for hurting the shoplifter. Ain't I heroic?

What you did is very common. When faced with a situation, anyone, where someone has been victimize we tend to act without thinking...

Oh snap, I would try to tell them not to risk it or not get involved. Any kind of theft on your permanent record is pretty much automatically screwing you out of bank loans, (homes, cars, school ect all look for this) screwing you out of credibility for apartment rentals, and screwing you out of half the known jobs in the world.
Try getting a job in retail with theft. And any theft under $500 is all labeled the same thing, so a perspective employer cant tell if you where stealing a pack of condoms or a new TV.
Personally, I would never screw someone over so bad as to turn them in unless it put my own job in danger. Its not worth ruining someones life over a dumb choice. Everyone deserves that chance to grow and become a better person, and thats hard to do with something like that on your record.

okay well I would do nothing
my friends steal stuff all the time from stores
I am not just going to go up to the store manager and be like
"look my friends have stolen something"
no. If my friends get caught they get caught but its none of my business to report it
