View Full Version : Xbox Live banning for cursing?

So this morning before class I was watching a new video put out by F@G, Federation of Asshole Gamers, and how they are now getting banned for cursing over Xbox live. I know we agreed to Microsoft's Terms and conditions, but seriously how does it make sense to do that? There is cursing in the video games, how is that acceptable yet on live if I do it I can face getting perma ban/ console banned?
If the games have a M rating shouldnt that be a warning of, "hey, its likely people will be cursing on here so beware." and if people dont like the cursing they can mute them. The video says they are attacking our freedoms, dont agree with that, goes back to the signing and agreement of terms and conditions, but still dont we have a right to curse if we want? What harm is there if I drop the F bomb? Not like im using racial slurs here.

that is the dumbest thing i've ever heard in my life. i swear all the time over xboxlive and no one gives a crap cause they swear too.
yes the game is rated M. how little kids get it is their moms/dads. they had to have bought it for them and let them play. so the parents should have known there would be swearing on the game.

Cursing shouldn't be an issue on games that are rated M and up. I mean these children aren't even supposed to have the game. That's all the fault of the parents for not keeping tabs on what their kid is doing/buying it for them. The only place they should even worry about cursing is on games that have a large youth base. Even then these kids yell and curse like no tomorrow anyways.
It's like second nature for gamers to cuss at their games....
HELLLLLOOOOOO RAGEQUITTING!!!!
This is stupid. I mean I understand they want to make it more family friendly and what have you, but like you said... there's tons of cussing in the games themsselves

then there should be split games if there going to allow kiddies to play. MP matches for 18+ and MP matches for under. there give us back swearing NAO!

They should set up sometype of report system so we can split up the kids from the adults. My idea would be since all the information about the account is on file at Microsoft somewhere, if a report is filed saying this person is under 18 they call the house and talk to the parents. If you call when people dont expect it You get the truth instead of some made up story.

I love making others rage and stuff, but oh well. F@G did get xbox live rules changed, so im sure they will do it again.
What I mean by changing the rules, the entire F@G was banned for a week upwards of 42 times because people called xbox live saying their account was hacked. Alot of people called in and now they want the serial number on the xbox.

If it was free I could understand but if I'm paying for it then I should be able to say what ever I want....
If theirs kids in a room I'm playing in I try to watch my language... Yet if i'm getting own bad things come out my mouth.
Another things is if someone is getting upset by what someone is saying they can take their headset off or even mute the player.... I think thats why its there so this really cant be a reason to banned someone...

Cussing is an outlet for people that either aren't good at the game or they just feel like it. In my opinion either one is a good reason

This is true, but since Xboxlive sets the rules they can change them at will.
Besides all the ESRB does is give the level of the game, cant rate the unknown, they have no pull whatsoever on anything.

wow this sucks I swear when I am playing
or I swear at people who swear at me back
like trash talkers I mean I talk back to them but apparently I won't be able to anymore because there is no more swearing
but why do parents blame the other kids why not blame themselves don't go and buy your 6 year old MW2 and buy them xbox live and then get all upset if your 6 year old learns new words
do some research before you buy your kid games!

A FREAKIN MEN!!!!!
Don't buy your kids uber violent games and expect them to get on live and not hear cussing. If you don't care about the rating of the game ( which more than likely has colorful language all it's own) then why care about the people they play with cussing. I got cussed out by a 12 year old on Crackdown the other day.... I didn't say anything to him... lol

Ya, it is annoying. You want to control the violence/colorful language used on video games, yet you still allow little kids to play. That makes no sense, if the parents are going to allow their children to play, we cant be held accountable for what we say because of the parents laziness to spend time with them. Yes I do blame the parents, your getting them M rated games and you get mad when you hear them getting cursed at.

Thanks for apologizing... I was rather put off myself and honestly felt better when I saw this post.

you always post exactly what I think and feel. Eloquent and stylish, thank you Bob!
This whole thing will probably blow over because of how silly it is... right? I mean, they wouldn't really stick hardcore to a policy of swear=ban,...

Yes that is a very dumb rule but i guess cursing is no good but we should have the freedom to do it though plus there never going to catch you just don't cuss to much in game chat and you should be fine.:-)

Ffff I think if anything it should be warnings. I don't think they should care, you know.. just kinda.. skim over that issue. Give a warning out here and there to comply with their rules..
IF ONLY EH?

Im still with the idea that if you are not of age to play mature games we the gamers can not be handle accountable for cursing. mature is 17+ so by that age, well mainly around 14, we are cursing up a storm.

Hm that's true...
I mean those game ratings are there for a reason ;p
It's hard to control your tongue in the heat of the moment. Some words just.. slip out.

Well although at first glance the idea may seem stupid . I thought about it and my view may also seem stupid but . I believe that due to the emotional kids , Game addicts , And just stupid people . When people confront each other online some people take it more personal then it is meant to be . Like this one girl I heard killed herself because the people on a chat room made her feel bad . I would say that most people do not gets upset when a game cusses if they knew it was going to cuss in it . But when someone directly cusses at you some people get more upset by this . I know i find it rather funny when some fan boy rages as he gets pwned on Halo . But that's just me , I can understand the view of Microsoft . I do not own a xbox so this may exist already , But they should make a special host option that says this room contains cussing . But that's just my view what do you guys think about this .

The games have ratings, IE if its logo batman its not likely people will curse on that game, but if its halo or MW2 people will curse. If people are going to harm themselves or be emotional corrupted by people they will never meet, never see, nor never talk to again they already have issues.

I don't understand why I get an infraction for this one. The topic was xbox banning...and I had this in my profile and got banned for it...
However pedophile it may be...it is FROM A SONG...and is a joke...

well I understand actually what the other are there is saying
I mean if people take it the wrong way and stuff
but I think again people have to look at the ratings of the game and realize there might be people cursing and if you don't like that don't get the game
