As previously rumored, Microsoft is set to debut a brand new revision to its Xbox 360 controller, which improves the oft-loathed D-pad among other cosmetic touches.

The newly-redesigned and patented D-pad allows users to switch between the traditional Xbox 360 disc-like configuration to a more oldschool raised "plus" with a simple twist, as seen below.

In addition, the new controller features stylish gray buttons, a "comfortable concave design" on the analog sticks, and a unique silver-colored matte finish.

The controller debuts at retail November 9, and is only available in a wireless Play and Charge kit for $64.99. The official website is here and a demonstration video, courtesy Microsoft's Larry Hryb, is below.

Why didn't they just release these with the ****ing 360S? =\ Not really a fan of them changing the colors of the XYBA buttons.

This is just in time for Marvel vs. Capcom3. I was tired of going through off brand controllers that wear out just to get the full Dpad advantage. =P

This is actually a pretty decent improvement. And I can see it making fighting games more popular.

thats great, but what about the colored buttons... well, I'm sure some people playing this are NOT colorblind... haha.

& bob, I thought people use the joystick part of the controller in fighting games... you use the D-pad? what about the arcade stick... ?

They did release a new controller with the new 360S. It's black, but the button structure seems a lot like this one... I'll post a pic of mine when I get home.

Well, the deal interface for any game is a mouse and keyboard. (obviously excluding games like DDR and rock band) An arcade stick works better for fighting games then most controllers but a keyboard with directional moves makes pulling of specials a sure thing with enough practice.

Because of "Mace the Dark Age" on the n64 I got used to Dpads but found that the ones that have a full circle on a swivel worked better (usually found on off brand controllers like Mad cat) and stuck with the Dpad over the joystick for even major titles like soul calibur3 where I proved its superiority to my brothers joystick style time and time again.

yeah I guess you're right dude, 'with enough practice' as you said.
sometimes I use the joystick on the controller, but then again, its difficult to pull of the specials or the special moves.

Idk, I always thought mouse and keyboard games are clunky. Mouse is nice, but I like the conveniently located buttons of the consoles more than i like more accuracy while playing a pc game.
