These games used to be all I did. Back in 2005 with the release of bf2 I played it like it was the best thing ever. Fast forward 5 years and I am still playing these types of games long after they stopped being fun. I used to play games like track mania and the old snes games and unreal tournament. I can't play these anymore because all I want to do is go back online and shoot a "terrorist" in the head to "rank"up. I now know what a WoW addict feels like. I would really like some helpful ideas and anything useful on this. The Internet seems to be lacking on ideas. I have been free of battlefield (bfbc2) for almost 4 days now and I am depressed and can not concentrate. I just start school and this is no good for me. Throughout my mindless shooting years I ended up getting married to some girl whom I thought I was just "seeing" and I don't even like her all that much. My life has been ruined because of some game and this is just nuts. I want to be able to go out in the world and not think about playing a game where all I do is shoot some other guy sitting at home. It's pathetic, I am pathetic Noe because of this.

First of all Welcome to Gamers-Forum
Second.. How many hours a day have you been playing? And can't you just sell you systems so you can't play?

I really can't just sell my systems. I used to play for 12-13hours a day. I have tried to sell them and I just keep buying them back

Maybe you should try talking to a therapist?

Get someone to log into your router and block all ports but port 80 and get them to change the password.
Problem solved.

no you can still configure certain games including some shooters through that port.
Combat Arms
Guild wars
Runescape
Most PSP games that go online
I know this from wasting time on campus with a laptop.

First off, I'm not even entirely sure if I can take this seriously. How did you have time to get married to someone you dont like by playing to many FPS's? I'm sure my level of addiction has peaked somewhere far beyond unhealthy a few times in my life and that usually solves the unwanted relationship thing.
But the first step to getting better is definitely to grab a nice fresh sheet of notebook paper and a pen/pencil and make a list of everything you want to accomplish in the next year, things you want to buy, goals you want to meet, and the way you want to live.
Having no goals is really the primary reason we let ourselves fall into a cycle like that. We only feel like we are accomplishing something by reaching the next rank or beating an old record. But really, when its all said and done no one cares if your 3rd prestige or tenth but you, and it will give you a lot less satisfaction then having a new mustang.
Or a fiercely organized and decorated room to show off to friends. Sometimes even things like video game are great for filling bookshelves and starting conversations. Having spent a few hundred hours to many on video games doesnt really exclude you from popular culture anymore. Make a point to meet new people and make new friends if you have to.
IMPORTANT Once you have a nice list of goals post it somewhere you cant avoid it. Make sure you see it every day. Then do something towards meeting at least one of those goals every day. Dont sit down to play videogames until you can feel like you earned it. Rewarding yourself only after fulfilling a hierarchy of needs is "the goal".
"The goal" is to feel better about yourself in general, and eventually to be happy with how you spend your time, this may mean that you start to think negatively about all video games after all the time you wasted. When you are balancing life with video game then its no longer an addiction, its a hobby. And the only thing you are really addicted to is avoiding the things you let get out of hand. Personally I never gave up gaming, but this is up to the individual.
Also, stop playing Modern Warfare2 that game was poop on a stick.

bob I'm like... so touched and inspired by that post. I'm thoroughly impressed.
But, yeah, what slipknot said - therapy. It's a very, very good thing. Also, what Bob said... all of it. Leave his post open, it should be your montra.
unless you're just a troll and not actually in that crazy situation, in which case you can disregard all of this and continue getting your lols.
Also, agreed, MW2 is poop on a stick
