Also I wouldnt call the original mario a side scrolling RPG. RPG is a genre that can be widely applied but simply playing a character with a name does not qualify, or almost all games could be a RPG.

To me RPG means playing a character or group that progresses, grows stronger and delivers a storyline along the way. The details can vary, but story telling and character advancement are key.

There are lots of things I could go on about, but Im going to stop there.

Im also kind of upset SEGA isnt represented on their timeline. SEGA is so important to the history of games that not including it arguably makes any timeline irrelevant.

Without them we might not have xbox. Many advancements where pioneered by SEGA, and the name originally meant "SErvice and GAmes" and they had their own tv channel, made the SEGA CD, and tried to launch the dreamcast containing a Microsoft Operating system, basically the inspiration for the xbox.

The original controller for the xbox was very similar to the Dreamcasts, and we never saw the top two slots put to use because they where just a copy of the dreamcast with an extra joystick and no VMU ability. (I actually tried to put my VMU in my xbox controller the fist time I saw it)

The VMU was another pioneering moment in history worth mentioning. ANd the dreamcast could play dvds with a boot dist, as well as music and be used to go online like the wii, PSP and 360 now can.

Dont even get me started on the lack of PC history or the arcade boom.

I still own my Sega Genesis and I have a friend who still has his Dreamcast. Sega definitely had a big impact in gaming history, at least mine since I spent countless hours playing games like sonic and streets of rage and shinobi and a bunch of other games.

I saw the link before but never noticed Sega wasn't there until Bob just mentioned it.

The history of video games deserves to have a much longer image ;p
