So back on the older incarnation of AllRPG they used to have a sweet system for user post counts. They used to have user titles every 50 posts for close to 600 ranks, and after 2k posts went to every 100 posts, after 4k went to 150 posts ect.

The ranks where all titles or names of job classes from video games, mostly RPGs. So there was a lot of video game nostalgia.

The fun part was that no complete list was ever made available. People tried to assemble a complete list but as far as I know no one ever figured out how far the list went, perhaps the list just keep growing.

So I propose a secret list be composed be a select few members, then reworked so that they are somewhat ordered to be progressively awesome. Its a project for sure, but it ads something to a forum thats interesting and fun. Also I dont know of any forum that does this right now.

anyways, I will look around to see if I have a list because I know I started my own one time and had it over 200 names. But I will see where that went.

I mean, there's already user groups for each post count, but it's not a few.

I'd be down for helping assemble this list.

We do have user titles but the forum hides them if you have a custom user title for some reason. I can't stack it.

what do you mean stack it? You can't set what user title you have at certain post counts?

LiNuX

That's already set up, if you don't have a custom title then it will show. But the custom user title replaces it. And by stacking I mean, showing both the custom title and the regular title that changes based on post count. It's a flaw in how vBulletin was coded because I remember that stacking was possible back in SMF.

The regular ranks/titles are set up - here is a thread showing them: User Ranks Updated (9/21/08) - Gamers Forum (http://www.gamers-forum.com/showthread.php?t=8679&highlight=user+ranks)

I think he meant change the regular titles, not have it display both.

Yeah I know and I'm saying that most of the regular users have custom titles so they're not likely to see it anyway. I can always add more if you guys have suggestions.

As a side suggestion, I think you should increase the GFP price of custom titles, since 100 GFP isn't that hard to get. Make it something you actually have to earn.

Bob, if you wanna make a list of member groups and titles, i'll help.

I like that idea. Will revise the prices then. Maybe do 200-300 GFP for basic one and 100gfp for color and stuff. Would put people's GFP to use then.

Thanks.

I was thinking more like 600 - 700, but try the 300 first and see how that goes over.

I think 1000 GFP would be pretty cool as well.
We need a gfp shop :-)

I noticed you can be a "game review" / "mod" or "GFX Pro" at the same time do to the icons.

why dont you make custom user titles resemble the staff icon and designate someone to make them as a GFX pro. Then you would free up the user titles and could re-work it so that everyone could view their current title.

It doesn't quite work that way. The staff things are actual member groups. The titles are just "names" given based on what posts you have, or you can put a custom one up by editing the member's profile in the admin control panel

If you make the custom titles as badges then I'd have to make a new usergroup every time so that the badge will show. And managing dozens (even hundreds) of usergroups like that can get time consuming especially when you have to edit permissions on a mass scale. Even though I like the idea, there is no way to automate it and the amount of work it can create in the future can be enormous.

When I create new usergroups, I have to manually edit permissions for almost everything including avatars, signature, bank/gfp access, arcade, and forum permissions among others. So even though I like the idea, I'm way too lazy for that amount of work especially considering I don't even have that much time anyone.

I like your ideas, just wish vBulletin was more cooperative. If we made enough money from the ads, I'd just hire a vB expert to come up with something we can use. (I have no exp creating new vb modifications, I tried but failed in the past.)

Thats why I never got a custom title.
I like to see how badass I've become <:

I get what your saying and thanks for thinking about it. If I do come across that list I might just PM it to you anyways in case you want to use it, although not point in going to crazy with it I get what your saying.

ohk, man even proboards and suddenlaunch seem easier to mod on your own. I logged into an old forum and this was the script I used (provided by someone else blah blah credit):

<script>
var starurl="http://img88.exs.cx/img88/7641/redx.gif"
var getpost=[]
getpost[0]=["New member","0","1"]
getpost[1]=["Villager","11","1"]
getpost[2]=["Squire","50","2"]
getpost[3]=["Warrior","100","2"]
getpost[4]=["Swordsman","150","3"]
getpost[5]=["Blademaster","200","3"]
getpost[6]=["Barbarian","250","4"]

I wish it was that easy. But there are literally thousands of vBulletin files that make everything happen and if one bit of code could fix the whole user title thing then it would have made my job a whole lot easier.

Thanks though :) But I spoke to a few mods earlier and we'll be upgrading the forum to vb4.0 in the coming months, hopefully it'll have something that can help make this happen. I haven't been on the admin side of the new update so I can't say with certainty yet.

Thanks again.
