I dunno if any of you have checked out my recent video reviews (there's a bunch of them around the reviews section here on gf) .. but something's been bugging me ..

I should state to start with that I've only really been doing video reviews for a short time really, and probably not often enough. I've been trying to find a 'style' that I'm happy with more recently - by that I mean not just the look of the review itself, but more specifically how I personally do the review, and so far I don't feel quite there yet. I tend to improvise my reviews (talking over the footage I've got without a script etc) which is good in some ways because it sounds more 'real' but isn't necessarily all that entertaining. Oh, and I tend to do this improvised review in one take without any editing.

I've come up with a few ideas I want to try on my next few, but without wanting to go into my thoughts too much I'd be interested in your views/advice/opinions/or just cake.

I'd like my reviews to be as good as I can make them, which I'm not quite there yet .. but at the same time I don't want them to 'feel' too manufactured like some you see around.

Any feedback would be awesome .. here or if you prefer in a pm.

/hug

Only tip/advice I can think of atm is maybe instead of improvising your commentary totally, watch the video, take notes of things you'd like to mention (or any jokes/humourous things hawhaw), and thennn do the commentary.
Perhaps that way you're not just going off your ass and you have somewhat of an outline, and time to think ahead before diving in ;p

I like lemon's script idea. Someone told me to try it for my programming vids, I didn't like it...I did it for about 2 before getting too lazy to write them up but I did notice that it help and I wasn't saying stuff I didn't mean.

I saw your videos but from school...which means no sound.

all I can say from my own Experience, is don't be afraid to Pause while recording you can always cut out the Pauses(don't be afraid to cut),

Another thing I've learned is it's best to do the Commentary First and then add the Video second. that way your not forcing yourself to talk in a certain time-span.

I also tend to ask a few People that haven't played the Game "What's the First questions that come to mind about this game?"
I put all those Questions in a notepad for me to glance at while recording.

Thanks for the comments so far .. some very useful things for me to think about.

I think some trial and error might be in order hehe
