Police are investigating a body found in a burned truck in the Nashville suburb of Bellevue.

Officers discovered the body early Friday morning after responding to a fire behind a theater.

Police say the body was burned too badly to determine gender. The case is being investigated as a homicide.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. –Police have identified the body found inside a burned truck in Bellevue early Friday morning. Police identified the victim as 25-year-old Joshua Lars Strickland, of Burns.

Police say a motorist flagged down a police officer after seeing a vehicle on fire behind the Old Regal Cinema off of Highway 70 South in Bellevue around 3:30 a.m. When firefighters arrived on scene, the truck was fully engulfed in flames.

Only when crews put the fire out did they see the body lying in the front passenger's seat of the truck.

Police said it is clear from the evidence that Strickland is the victim of a homicide. They are not releasing any other details so as not to interfere with their ongoing investigation.

"Because of the possibility of nefarious acts we want to make sure and not preclude anything. We're going to start from the very beginning, collect all the evidence, and recreate the scene as much as we can," said Captain Chris Taylor with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.

Police are unsure why Strickland was in the Bellevue area. Police said the truck was left charred with no visible license plates.

Officials have asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Metro Police Department at 74-CRIME.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – A body has been found in a burning vehicle, for the second time in less than 24 hours.

The body was discovered just before 9 p.m. Friday on Smith Springs Road, near the Smith Springs Recreation Area. Witnesses said they heard what sounded like an explosion, then found a car in flames.

Metro police and fire responded and found the body inside the car.

The identity of the victim has not been released. Police are still investigating.

The body of Joshua Strickland was found early Friday morning inside a burning truck behind the old movie theater on Highway 70 South.

I went to Elementary, Junior High, and High School with Josh... he has 2 kids, and a step-son, and his wife is... well... not ok.

We're still wondering who the second body is... they haven't released the name yet.

That's just terrible. Were you very close to Josh?

And I'm sorry for his family. Hopefully the police step up and find who may be doing this.

He was my little brother's best friend. He hung out with us all the time, and took me to junior prom.... We were super close when we were kids, but kind of grew apart.. he started hanging out with my brother more and more... and me less and less... My little brother can't stop crying.

That's sad to hear. Losing a friend that you've known for that long must really be painful. I'm really sorry to hear that. I can't believe people do things like that. How morally deprived does someone have to be to think about doing it? I just can't understand that sort of mindset.
