Most of the time, if somebody goes around and makes 10 posts then plugs their link, they get insta-banned. I was thinking, what if you actually banned some legit members in the process? I think that you should wait a bit to see if they actually become a member. Some people might join to plug their link, then end up liking the site, or some people might join with the intention of sticking around, but get their link plugging out of the way before they start actually posting. I'm not saying all of this is true, but maybe wait a bit before banning the link-pluggers to see if they become an actual member?

Is this directed to any mod in particular? If so it might be better in a pm to them or to Linux. Or is this just a hunch? Either way I haven't a clue what you're talking about personally lol ..

everybody lol. There are lots of new members that could potentially stick around once they plug their link, but the link pluggers are usually banned so fast we never find out.

I'm not sure that's accurate tbh, and a bit of a presumption. Yes some people are banned for unleashing a can of site-dribble on us, while others read the rules etc first and you can tell by how they conduct themselves in their first few posts (before they get to the link).

As far as I'm aware all mods know to give people a chance .. so I'm not sure how to respond beyond that, seeing as you stated this was directed to everyone.

It has happened in the past where we banned people looking to stick around but it's rare. We only find out because the person usually contacts us and them either complains, says sorry, or acts offended that we called him a spammer.

But it's rare. And not everyone is banned right away for posting one spam. Most of them generate infractions that get them banned.

okay. well i mean, obviously since i'm not a mod I don't know exactly what happens, but most of the time as soon as I see a link-plugged post the poster is banned. I was just thinking about it and thought i'd bring it up.

usually the people who just post a link and leave, they get their post deleted and infracted, and what I like to do is go thru his other posts and look for useless post infractions - 95% of the time, the other infractions are clearly there.

There are plenty of people who seemed legit at 10 posts then spammed a link and left. They're still around, they just got infracted for their one post which got deleted.

SO yeah...about 99.5% of the people that get banned, deserve/earn it. Plenty of people don't get banned and that 0.5% are legit who usually contact us afterwords and I usually reactivate their account as a second chance.
