I have heard about this too , It was about a year ago . But they said the same thing about the halo movie . I still have no idea if they are going to release that . I would guess it is safe to assume they have started this project , but we have no idea if they will finish it .

Not quite. The Halo movie kept getting put on hold due to red tape, and Blomklamp/Jackson moved on to a different project, District 9.

The thing is, for the rumour mill to say a movie is in the works all it really needs is one person with a treatment trying to meet production company people. By the looks of the comments here, we've all been hearing about his for ages but nothing has been confirmed by any companies. When Madman, Fox, Miramax or Warner Bros announce they are making a Cowboy Bebop movie, then you can assume it is in the works.
I think it may have been at some point, because there was even talk of casting and I'm sure I remember there being more specific details, but obviously it got put on hold or lost it's financing or whatever. One of the people who gave it the green light might have left their position and their replacement was not so keen on the idea. Who knows?
Also, dear god if they do make a Cowboy Bebop movie don't cast Keanu Reeves as Spike! He's great and all, but he just doesn't have that charisma and cool charm that Spike has.
