Well I like them both .. but for me at least F3 takes it for me personally. Alternatively, just save your cash and get Fallout: New Vegas later this month :p

Eh, i'd rather play F3 because 1. more nostalgic since it came out during a period of my life i'm nostalgic for 2. its prob $20 by now
but anyways, i generally prefer SCIFI but i liked for the most part what i played of morrowind, and i'm hoping oblivion improved on that...

Im going to have to say that you should really get both. Im also more of a sci-fi fan but I spent a lot more time playing Oblivion and still like it slightly better.
Oblivion personally I feel is the better value. I loved both games but Oblivion has much more content and a more diverse setting. I cant imagine not playing that game really.
Another thing is that you choose a race and custom build a class. Thats something I like in an RPG over genaric characters gradually developing into a role (face it we all went for energy weapons in Fallout3, did anyone build a melee character?).
Get Oblivion and save up for New Vegas. Something tells me that in the end thats the better deal.

Fallout 3. No solid evidence why I though that it's better.
I will soon try to get it also so..

They are very similiar, but Fallout 3 is definitely better. If you are going to get Ps3 Fallout 3, you have trophies, while in Oblivion you don't. The story is also more interesting!

Don't bother with Fallout 3.. The new one's coming out soon. I could sell you mine when I'm done with it if you've REALLY got that much of a boner for it. xD

Well, that's actually true. Fallout New Vegas is coming, and the trailer makes it look awesome! The thing is, if you are not going to get Fallout 3, don't get Oblivion. I have it, and personally, don't like it! RAWR!

The pick between both games is extremely hard.. Elder Scroll 4 is a great game, many hours doing side quests for the magic guild, thieves guild, the vampire guild, and everything else, but the main storyline was very short but on the flip-side the story line was beautifully done. Its old school hack and slash where you play as a noble person, evil vampire, someone who steals, someone who uses epic magical powers. It goes on and on.
On the other hand You have Fallout 3. Which is really good, you can do alot of exploring, with just the normal game by its self, and find all kinds of neat stuff and follow the storyline or just explore and find side quests to level. The storyline was done beautifully as well. The weapons, the people, the storyline, the enemies, everything sets you up to have some really fun times and not know what will happen next, unless youve already played the game once. Also the game has gotten a few expasions, 3 I believe, which adds more to the storyline of fallout 3, but it gets confusing BUT THAT ISA SPOLIER.
In the end it comes down to choice, because both games have good offerings but ya.

Well i don't know anything about fallout new vegas, and if i were to play a fallout game it'd be 3 because 1. i remember sitting around reading about the game and wanting to play it during college and 2. it'll be a lot cheaper. I don't have $60 to throw towards a new game (vegas) when I could play an extremely similar one for $20 (its 20 right?)
It's quite the hard decision. Is the oblivion GOTY edition the one with all the glitches or was that the original?

Lol. O.o.
That's an easy obvious choice.

I think you should look up the definition of "definitely". If you look at empirical evidence you would be wrong. More people liked oblivion consistently across every platform. Note I use evidence other then my own opinion:

You could argue that Oblivion got the better ratings because it came out first, but then you would have to argue that fallout3 is so similar to oblivion that its not even its own game by right, that it was some kind of rehash of the same game where you where limited to guns rather then spells and swords and bows and the color pallet was made every shade of brown.
And dont even get me started on explaining the differences in story quality. They used Patrick Stewart to narrate the story's title animation so it automatically wins.

While this is an older topic, i've kind of made a decision. I want to get oblivion, but I want to get the GOTY edition. I've heard the GOTY version is buggy though, is that true?
Once I finish Xenosaga i'll probably get one of these 2 or Demon's Souls depending on how long I can wait and which ones I see in the stores

I have never played Fallout, so I am biased, but I have enjoyed Oblivion, and keep coming back to it. It improved on Morrowind considerably. Not sure about the GotY edition being glitchy. I have the original, and none of the expansions.

I got both games and personally i like fallout 3 better. Its almost the same graphics in both games and the characters look also the same.(dead eye syndrome) But i like the humor in F3 cause oblivion is so dead serious(with a few exceptions)
I love the music in F3 too even if it is a bit of repeting.
