Just upgraded my Eee 901 from Jolicloud to Ubuntu Netbook 10.10. So far it's a nice litte OS and runs nicely on here where as XP is a no go due to the small hard drive space.
I've been looking at the Desktop edition for my PC is it worth setting a a dual boot for this and XP (current OS)?

How much space does it have? And if you have the money for two cd key's for XP then you could go for it - it's good exp imo.
You could also try other version of Linux - my personal favorites are Fedora and CentOS. They're a bit different from Ubuntu.

I had a feeling you'd be the first to reply haha
Cheers i'll look into it, definitely won't have XP on my 901 as the HDD is only 4gb and a slower 16gb. Tried it before and was hard work trying to keep XP within the 4gb bracket. =]

In the 2 GB and 4 GB models of the 700 series of the Eee PC, the SSD is permanently soldered to the board, speculatively to reduce manufacturing costs.
That sucks...means no easy way to upgrade. You could always try to boot it from another device via USB or something. And I don't think you'll be able to dual boot with just 4gb of available space.
My phone has more space...

Nicely done on getting Ubuntu 10.10
Jaykub said ya Netbook only got 4 GB? WTF?
And about your question, having dual boot is worth it but not safe. You can try other way which is more safe by using wubi.exe

Cheers for all the tips guys, I was considering dual booting on my PC not my netbook.
I tried installing OS's on the 16gb drive on my netbook before but it just lags big time, it is possible to upgrade the hard drive on mine so may be something worth looking into.
Ubuntu 10.10 runs very well on it though with a 1.6ghz intel Atom Processor and 2gb of Ram incase anyone else was considering installing it on there netbooks and definitely a lot more netbook friendly than XP.
