Trying to get Freespace 2 to work on my brand spanking new Dell laptop. I get an error that says I have 0 RAM when I have 6 gigs. Can anyone out there help? Have you seen this error before?

Here's what I'm running it on

Dell Inspiron 1545 with Win 7 Home Premium
Intel Core Duo CPU - T6600 at 2.20 GHz
6.00 GB Memory
64-bit Operating System

Thanks

is it compatible with Windows 7 64bit?

I've had issues running certain programs on my win7 64bit install. That's why I dual boot with 32bit Win XP. Even though Win 7 is great, it has certain flaws. I can't play BFBC2 or MW2 on my windows 7 install without it crashing every few minutes.

Plus...Dell is horrible imo. They use cheap parts and price them really high. And some others on this forum will tell you their service is horrible too.

Windows also has a page on their site somewhere where you can check if a program will run properly. Just google it, you should come up with it. It's windows 7 compatibility list.

OK thanks. I'll check the compatibility list. I have no idea if Freespace is compatible with a 64. But now that you mention it, the game is about 10 years old. So probably not.

Well, I know my opinion in these problems may not be important, but I have Warlords Battlecry III which was released on May 17, 2004 (just googled it xD) and it still works in my Windows 7 Ultimate. Maybe if a game is really old, it won't work, but WB3 is 6 years old, so I think that's old...? Eheh.

I found the fix I needed.

"I just found that if you need to run it in Windows 98 compatibility mode, then it works great! No problem with sound, joystick - anything!

Right click on the Freespace icon, select properties and then compatibility tab, choose win98 comp and youre smooth sailing."

glad it worked. Incompatibility issue is always better than not having enough ram.
