Hey guys,

I'm about to buy a laptop since I will be starting with University soon ^.^ so I was just wondering which one you guys would recommend? I don't want anything to fancy since I doubt I'll be playing games that require great graphics on it. If it can play games like the Sims 3 it should be fine. I don't game that much on PC anyway.

It shouldn't be too expensive either.

Thanks a lot guys.

oh and ...

Lenovo/IBM is a good brand - My main laptop is a Lenovo and have had it working for the past 4 years. In computer terms, it's very old but still runs very well (not like new, but good enough to remain my primary laptop).

HP is a good brand as well. I have one of those and had that for 3 years or so. I don't use it much because it has Vista but it's still nice.

And Sony Vaio is a good brand. I used to have one but it stopped working a while back.

I would link you to stuff from newegg or something, but I don't think they deliver out of the US (unless you come back).

Sony Vaios aren't bad at all oO I had one for a while and it worked great until I spilled water on it ^^;

I have an HP now, and it's not bad. Both of my laptops were super cheap versions (under $400), but they still run things pretty well. If you're spending more than that, then you'll probably have a better one :P Mine I just used for school and such, as well (though I do play games). I have an HP G60, if you're curious. It's not great by any means, and I can't run, like, Borderlands, but I can play Guild Wars and many other games just fine :P

dude... we're so in sync with each other. I'm getting a laptop aswell. XD
I'm leaning towards a sony vaio (can't remember which one) or a dell xps studio 17. I noticed nobody else suggested dell... it's fairly reliable... and it's got a spot in my heart.

yeah >.< I'm having trouble choosing between the two. The one with the better graphics card has the lower screen resolution but a bigger screen size, as well as a faster processer and accidental damage cover. But the other has a better screen resolution, bigger memory and looks prettier....
....yeah...

They use cheap parts and price them pretty heavily. Even though they are reliable at times, I've worked with both dell laptops and desktops and they're at the bottom of my list of premade computers that I would ever buy.

But that's just my experience with them.

Funny enough...I never actually bought a dell...just worked with the hardware (fixing, repairing, upgrading, etc.) - I set up a few Dell Desktops at my office like 2 weeks ago, 4 to be exact. And two of them had major issues, mostly dealing with the ethernet card and driver and they were only about a year or so old.

</end dell hate>

I have a Dell Studio 15. I've been debating getting a better laptop, but haven't really had the money.. My computer's pretty good though. I can run a good amount of things on it and I've had it for .. almost 3 years now.

I also honestly like Dell. I don't why some of you piss off with Dell. There is no such as stat that said the majority of Dell product are using cheap and bad stuff.

I have a Dell Studio 15. almost 3 years now.

I have a dell xps 15 atm. it's gonna be 3 years old in feburary. I've had almost every single component replaced (except for the casing). Most of it was due to me being a wee bit silly, but some of the faults were NOT of my doing.
Having said that, the dell one i'm looking it seems better than the vaio and dell has always re-acted really quickly to any problems i've had

Haven't had to have a single thing replaced on mine. :P Though.. I've had to clean-install a few times, and X-Chat currently doesn't work, so... haha

My feelings about Dell stands.

HP probably has the best quality there. My old HP lasted 9 years (desktop) and the current one at home (also desktop) is about 8 years old now too and works perfectly. None of the parts failed but I did add a new GPU and RAM in there as upgrades a while back.
